The meeting was called to order at 5:08 p.m. by David Santellan, who also led the group CALL TO ORDER
the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: David Santellan, Johnny Sanchez, Condie Lopez, Mary Sandlin, Donna ROLL CALL

STAFF: Randy Noriega, Associate Director of Recreation and Parks
Rich Rivera, Parks Supervisor
ABSENT: Harry Hoke
EXCUSED: Joe Torres
Minutes of April 20, 2000 were corrected. MINUTES APPROVED
Consent calendar item 1-3 and late agenda items 4-11 were approved with standard fees, CONSENT CALENDAR
conditions, and or modifications to applications as noted; motioned by Mary Sandlin, ITEMS:
seconded by David Santellan.
1. Request from Philip Jara to use Pioneer Park on June 24, 2000,from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 PHILIP JARA
p.m. for family picnic.
2. Request from Peggy Martinez to use stage and 50 chairs on May 20,2000,from 11:00 PEGGY MARTINEZ
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Downtown Azusa Business Association Grand Opening. Chairs
are approved but stage is not available due to setup and take down costs
associated.
3. Request from Margaret Marquez to use meeting room and kitchen at Memorial Park MARGARET MARQUEZ
on June 24, 2000, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.for birthday dinner.
Request from Cheryl Remick to use Slauson Park on May 13, 2000,from 10:00 a.m. to CHERYL REMICK
5:00 p.m.for a birthday party with moon bounce.
5. Request from Ross Montes to use Northside Park north and south ball field on June 2, ROSS MONTES
2000,from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and June 3, &4, 2000, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.,
for a baseball tournament. Northside Park south field is not available on June 2"d,but
Memorial southeast field is available.
6. Request from Azusa Head Start to use 4 EZ-ups, 8 tables, 20 chairs, helium tank, and AZUSA HEAD START
2 igloos.
7. Request from Debra Staveley to use grass area by bathrooms and ball field at DEBRA STAVELEY
Memorial Park on June 9,2000,from 10:00 a.m.to 1:30 p.m.for children's petting zoo.
Use of the grass area is approved but the petting zoo is not. Animals are not
permitted on City property without special permission and exception to the Municipal
Code by City Council.
8. Request from Ellen Castner to use Memorial Park on May 13,2000,from 12:00 p.m.to ELLEN CASTNER
4:00 p.m.for a birthday party with moon bounce.
9. Request from Alfonso Madrigal to use Pioneer Park on May 12, 2000, from 4:00 p.m. ALFONSO MADRIGAL
to 8:00 p.m.for girl's basketball banquet.
10. Request from Azusa Unified School District to use Northside Park on May 6,2000,from AZUSA UNIFIED SCHOOL
6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.for annual employee picnic.
11. Request from Celestino Beltran to use 4 pancake grills on May 21,2000,from 6:00 a.m. CELESTINO BELTRAN
to 4:00 p.m.for Knights of Columbus fund raiser.
Staff updated Commission on ongoing and upcoming Recreation activities. STAFF UPDATE
3nna McCormick volunteered to assist Associate Director Randy Noriega on park visits to DONNA & RANDY TO
review park improvements to be done by Mountain Cove Developers. REVIEW PARKS
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m. ADJOURN

Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 18, 2000, at 5:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park NEXT MEETING 5/18/00
Recreation Center. The meeting will be adjourned and reconvened at Northside Park
at 5:30 p.m. to rededicate Northside Park to Henry A. Williams Northside Park. �"\
