HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 4, 1999 - PRC MINUTES OF THE AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION - MARCH 4 , 1999 The meeting was called to order at 5:10 p.m. by Chairperson Mary Sandlin. Condie Dez led the Pledge of Allegiance. CALL TO ORDER PRESENT: David Santellan, Johnny Sanchez, Condie Lopez, Mary Sandlin, Harry Hoke. ROLL CALL STAFF: Randy Noriega, Recreation Superintendent EXCUSED: Joe Torres, Donna McCormick Minutes of February 18, 1999, were approved; motioned by Johnny Sanchez, seconded by David Santellan. MINUTES APPROVED Consent calendar items#1 and late items #2-9 were approved with standard fees and conditions; motioned by David Santellan, seconded by Johnny Sanchez. CONSENT CALENDAR 1. Request from Angie Vasquez to use a moon bounce at Zacatecas Park on ITEMS APPROVED: April 17, 1999, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 2. Request from Pony Baseball to use a meeting room at Memorial Park on ANGIE VASQUEZ March 21, 1999, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for a Pony Baseball league presidents informational meeting. PONY BASEBALL 3. Request from Karina Armendariz to use Pioneer Park N/E section on March 20, 1999, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a birthday party. 4. Request from Celestino Beltran and the Azusa Knights of Columbus to use KARINA ARMENDARIZ Pioneer Park on April 16, 1999, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a picnic. Request from U.S. Census Bureau to use Memorial Park room #4 on March 18, CELESTINO BELTRAN 1999 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to conduct field testing for applicants to fill jobs to conduct the year 2,000 census. U.S. CENSUS BUREAU 6. Request from Burke Hamilton, Principal of Murray School, to use 3 pancake grills on April 3, 1999, from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. 7. Request from Azusa Senior Center to use twelve 8-foot tables on April 3, 1999, BURKE HAMILTON from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for their annual parking lot sale. 8. Request from Azusa Light &Water Department to use 25 tables and 200 chairs AZUSA SENIOR CENTER for a city function at Gladstone Street Maintenance Yard on March 11, 1999, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. AZUSA LIGHT & WATER 9. Request from Praise Chapel Christian Fellowship Church to hold an Easter Sunrise Service at Slauson Park picnic shelter area on April 4, 1999, from 7:00 PRAISE CHAPEL to 9:30 a.m. for 30-35 people. CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP CHURCH Staff reported on recreation programs and park projects. Youth and adult sports and special events were discussed. Pool use and park turf renovation projects STAFF UPDATE were recapped. Staff reminded Commission that our recreation program evaluation would be discussed at our March 18, 1999, meeting. The assessment is not so much on "how" REMINDER: PROGRAM the current programs and activities are being coordinated, but "what" we are EVALUATION AT NEXT 'ering and "what" else could we or should we be offering. MEETING MINUTES OF THE AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION - MARCH 4 , 1999 PAGE TWO It was recommended by staff to conduct an Arbor Day celebration on April 15, ARBOR DAY ?9, and designate the third Thursday of April of every year as the City of Azusa's ficial Arbor Day. Motioned by David Santellan, seconded by Condie Lopez, to approve staff recommendation and proceed with request to City Council Mary reported that the air conditioning was not working correctly in room 5 at AIR CONDITIONING NOT Memorial Park Recreation Center for the Rosemary Salce rental. He also noted that WORKING IN ROOM 5 no mop and bucket were available for cleanup. (Recreation staff was asked but could not locate one for them). With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:35 p.m. ADJOURN Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 18, 1999, at 5:00 p.m. at the NEXT MEETING 3/18/99 Memorial Park Recreation Center.
