The CALL TO ORDER dge of Allegiance was conducted. PRESENT: Joe Torres, David Santellan, Condie Lopez, Johnny Sanchez, Donna ROLL CALL McCormick, Mary Sandlin. OTHERS: Randy Noriega, Recreation Superintendent ABSENT/EXCUSED: Harry Hoke Minutes of August 20, 1998 were approved; motioned by Donna McCormick, APPROVAL OF MINUTES seconded by Joe Torres. CONSENT CALENDAR Consent calendar items #1-5 were approved with standard fees and conditions; APPROVAL motioned by Joe Torres, seconded by Donna McCormik. 1. Request from Mirna Gomez to use Pioneer Park Northeast section on MIRNA GOMEZ October 10, 1998, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a child's 2"d birthday party; 50 people to attend. 2. Request from Olivia Betancourt to use Memorial Park Room #5 on OLIVIA BETANCOURT September26, 1998,from 1:00-5:00 p.m.fora baby shower;20-35 people to attend. 3. Request from Christine Mendoza to use a children's bounce at Northside CHRISTINE MENDOZA Park on September 12, 1998, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event is a `.. children's birthday party with 20 people to attend. 4. Request from Camsco Mfg. Corp.of Azusa to use Northside Park South Field CAMASCO MFG. on Wednesday, September 9, 1998 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for a company CORP. softball game. 5. Request from Zamora family to use Pioneer Park Northeast section on ZAMORA FAMILY September 12, 1998,from 1:00-6:00 p.m.fora birthday party with 50+people to attend. LATE CONSENT Late consent calendar items#1-7 were discussed and approved with standard fees CALENDAR APPROVAL and conditions; motioned by Joe Torres, seconded by David Santellan. 1. Request from the Velasco family of Azusa to use Memorial Park Room #5 on VELASCO FAMILY Saturday, September 12, 1998, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. fora graduation party; approximately 50 people to attend. 2. Request from Golden Days Committee to use City Park on Sunday, October GOLDEN DAYS COMM. 4, 1998, from 12:00-6:00 p.m. for Family Fun Festival; approximately 1,500 people to attend. Additional request was made for P.A. system, 12 tables, 20 chairs, 1 BBQ, 1 20' X 24' stage, 6 carnival games, and 4 extension cords. 3. Request from Golden Days Committee to use Memorial Park Rooms #5, #8, GOLDEN DAYS COMM. #4, and kitchen for post-parade luncheon on Saturday, October 10, 1998, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; approximately 100 participants to attend. 4. Request from Head Start to use Memorial Park Rooms #5, #4, and #10 from HEAD START September 6, 1998, through June 15, 1999, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as needed for parents meetings, workshops, staff meetings, etc. Group sizes vary from 10-45 people. Request from Marcelo Ramirez(Azusa Adult Softball team manager) to use MARCELO RAMIREZ Gladstone Park ball field on Tuesday,September 8, 1998,from 7:30-8:30 p.m. for softball practice. 6. Request from Azusa Chamber of Commerce to use Gladstone Park ball field AZUSA CHAMBER OF on Wednesday, October 7, 1998, to conduct the Azusa Golden Days Little COMMERCE People Softball Game. All proceeds from this event are donated to charity on behalf of the Little People's Fund. 7. Request from San Gabriel Valley Harley Owners Group to use Pioneer Park SAN GABRIEL VALLEY on Sunday,September27, 1998,from 7:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.for family picnic; HARLEY OWNERS approximately 120 people to attend. GROUP Request from Azusa Centennial Committee to construct a permanent AZUSA CENTENNIAL structure/monument to celebrate the City of Azusa's 100th Birthday. The structure COMM. REQUEST TO is proposed to be a series of concrete block pillars with glazed tiles attached. The CONSTRUCT PILLARS tiles were done at the Centennial Festival. Idea was approved in concept and final FOR AZUSA'S 100TH plan of pillars and location will be presented in the near future. BIRTHDAY Recreation Superintendent Randy Noriega informed the Commission of ongoing COMMISSION UPDATE Recreation programs and Parks projects. The windstorm damage was discussed. Commission noted that they were unaware of the rescheduled date of the Summer Carnival at Slauson Park. Cnrnmission member Mary Sandlin's seat is up for appointment by September 30, MARV SANDLIN RE- Commission was apprized of the different methods of appointing a APPOINTED candidate to this Commission appointed position. The Commission opted to re- appoint Commissioner Mary Sandlin to another term. Mary is willing and has proven to be a committed public servant. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:40 p.m. ADJOURN Next meeting is scheduled for September 17, 1998 at 5:00 p.m. at the Memorial NEXT MEETING 9/17/98 Park Recreation Center.
