Condie Lopez led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. PRESENT: Joe Torres, David Santellan, Condie Lopez, John Sanchez, Donna ROLL CALL McCormick & Mary Sandlin. ABSENT: Harry Hoke OTHERS: Joe Jacobs, Recreation Superintendent, Carolyn Crawford, Senior Citizen Program Manger & Jo Ann Coppola, Head Start Program Coordinator Minutes of April 16, 1998 approved as mailed. MINUTES APPROVED Items 1- 9 on the consent calendar were approved as one action, motioned by CONSENT CALENDAR Johnny Sanchez and seconded by Joe Torres. 1. Request from West Covina Christian School to use Slauson Pool for end of W.C.CHRIS/POOL school party Friday, June 5, 1998, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. 2. Request from Glendora Alliance Church to use Slauson Pool for swim party, GLEN.ALLI/POOL Saturday, August 8, 1998 from 4:30- 7:30 p.m. 3. Request from Deanna Martinez to use Dining Room for graduation dinner MARTINEZ/ROOM on Saturday, June 20, 1998 from 2:00 - 10:00 p.m. Request from Bureau of ATF-Regulatory to use Dining Room for seminar on ATF /ROOM Friday, June 19, 1998 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. 5. Request from Glendora Alliance Church to use BBQ on Saturday, August 8, GLEN.ALLI/BBQ 1998 at previously mentioned swim party. ria/10 ;; PIAN Item #10 was approved as a single action, motion by and seconded by Joe Torres. 1 Request from Kaiser Permanente Educational Outreach Program to use KAISER PERM./ROOM Memorial Park meeting room for tutorial program Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 3 - 7:30 p.m. (April 28-June 18). Request St. Frances of Rome Church to rent BBQ for June 13 event. ST. FRANCES-BBQ 12. Request by Pony Baseball-East Region to use meeting room for All-Star PONY-EAST ROOM Tournament seeding May 18, June 15 & 16, 1998. 13. Request by Valentina Sanchez for use of Moon Bounce at Slauson Park SANCHEZ/M-BNCE Saturday, May 9, 1998 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 14. Request from Louis Pedroza to borrow tables, chairs and BBQ for May 14, NAT'L PUBLIC WORKS 1998, celebrating National Public Works Week. WEEK 15. Request from Azusa Head Start to use tables, chairs, igloos for Open House, HEAD STAR T OPEN Wednesday, May 20, 1998 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. HOUSE 5/20 INFORMATIONAL ITEMS INFORMATIONAL Letter from Chamber of Commerce to Carolyn Crawford was discussed and CHAMBER LETTER presented to Commission. After further comments,Commission was reassured that all Chamber requests are to be funneled through Joe Hsu, Interim City Administrator. This procedure will ensure accuracy and punctual and proper planning and preparation time. �,tennial update was given by Joe Jacobs. Committee is very optimistic about CENTENNIAL UPDATE potential for event. Things are shaping up nicely. Program updates were given by Jacobs, Crawford and Coppola. PROGRAM UPDATES Commissioner Torres requested additional information on possibility of placing a VIET NAM PLAQUE plaque on existing Memorial at City Hall honoring those 7 or 8 Azusa residents who died in Viet Nam (as listed in recent Tribune coverage). Staff to investigate and report at next meeting. Commissioner Sanchez requested a field maintenance plan for the football field FOOTBALL FIELD at Memorial Park. Staff to investigate-Park Supervisor, Rich Rivera to report at next MAINT. meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 6:12 p.m. on a motion by Dave Santellan, seconded ADJOURN by Johnny Sanchez. Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday,May 21, 1998 at 5:00 p.m.at the Memorial NEXT MTG. 5/21 Park Recreation Center. Recreation Superintendent, Joe Jacobs will be the Community Services Department Chairman for May. 5/7/98
