HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - December 18, 1997 - PRC MINUTES OF AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING -- DEC. 18, 1997 meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m. by Donna McCormick who led the group in the CALL TO ORDER edge of allegiance. PRESENT: Mary Sandlin, David Santellan, Donna McCormick,John Sanchez , Harry Hoke & ROLL CALL Condie Lopez OTHERS: Joe Guarrera, Randy Noriega,Joe Jacobs & Rich Rivera EXCUSED: Joe Torres Dave Linden, Pat Loy and Woody Dyke of the Rosedale Project presented a proposed revised ROSEDALE PROJECT plan for the development. This latest proposal has one central park of 6.5 acres adjacent to the proposed 8 acre school site, a 2.7 acre wilderness park just across Sierra Madre from Pioneer Park and approximately 10, .4 acre vest pocket parks scattered throughout the project. There are no plans for restrooms or parking at these smaller parks. Members of the Commission expressed concern and strongly suggested another larger park be developed and/or clustering several of the smaller parcels to allow for more useable recreation areas. The proposal as presented was not acceptable. � #I from the consent calendar was from Chamber of Commerce to use City Hall lawn, C OF C TO USE CITY Prarch 25, 1998, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for Career Fair and Business Expo. It was moved by HALL LAWN Condie Lopez, seconded by Donna McCormick and unanimously approved. Item # 2 from the consent calendar was a request from Park Division to change the designated DESIGNATED TREE tree for Powell Ave. Moved by David Santellan, seconded by Condie Lopez and unanimously approved. Name of tree specimen designated for Powell Ave. is: Hymendsporum Plavum or Sweet Slade (common name). Request from staff to use Memorial Park Gym, March 9-13, 1998, 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. for SGVMAA BASKETBALL SGVMAA Jr. High level basketball tournament was presented. It was moved by Donna TOURNEY McCormick, seconded David Santellan to approve. Request from Foothill Jr. High to use Memorial Park Gym,January 19, 1998 for 3 on 3 basketball FOOTHILL JR. HIGH 3 tourney was presented. Mer discussion, it was agreed that the District should be made aware ON 3 BASKETBALL of these kinds of requests to insure they are cognizant of how much cooperation exist between our two agencies. It was moved by Donna McCormick, seconded by Condie Lopez and unanimously approved. Each of the Division Heads present gave brief updated on there respective areas of responsibility. DIV. HEADS REPORT It'•'s agreed that since the first meeting of the New Year falls on January I , 1998, that we move JAN. MEETINGS 8 &22 k,,january meeting to the second and fourth Thursdays, January 8 & 22, 1998 and that the February meetings will revert to the I st and 3rd Thursdays and we will be back on schedule. 12/18/97 Commission Minutes Page Two Discussion followed concerning a name change of the Parks and Recreation Commission to the COMMISSION NAME Community Services Commission. Staff to prepare code amendment. CHANGE :re being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m. ADJOURN The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be Thursday, January 8 at NEXT MTG. I/8/98 5:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park Recreation Center. 12/18/97
