HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - December 4, 1997 - PRC MINUTES OF AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING -- DEC. 4, 1997 meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Vice Chairman, Harry Hoke. Carolyn Crawford CALL TO ORDER led the group in the pledge of allegiance. PRESENT: Mary Sandlin, David Santellan, Donna McCormick, Joe Torres, John Sanchez, ROLL CALL Harry &Condie Lopez. OTHERS: Joe Guarrera &Carolyn Crawford Minutes were approved as presented. MINUTES APPROVED Carolyn Crawford presented an update on Chamber of Commerce use of the Senior Center CHAMBER OF November 22, 1997 and requested use for January 10, 1998. In addition to these two dates the COMMERCE USE OF Chamber is seeking permission t use the Senior Center for the Miss Azusa contest. Staff has some SENIOR CENTER serious concerns as the Senior Center is dedicated to those 50 years and older. The contest, although viewed by many 50 and over, is a family affair and would open a whole new use for the Center; which is not designed for general public use, i.e., the reception area and phone, library and billiard rooms are not lockable. After brief discussion, it was unanimously agreed that the policy of having the Senior Center Advisory Council review all request for use of the Center be reaffirmed and the Chamber be -ected to the Woman's Club House for future events. Items I thru 3 on the consent calendar were approved on a single motion by Joe Torres and a AGENDA ITEMS second by David Santellan. APPROVED 1. DEREGULATION nave Linden of the Rosedale Project will be in attendance December 18, to discuss changes to ROSEDALE PROJECT plan. Letter and photos from Jan Boyer, 1045 N. Pasadena concerning tennis courts at Northside Park TENNIS COURTS was read and shown: AT NORTHSIDE PK. Commission Minutes 12/4/97 Page Two I'm speaking for a group of ladies that have played on the courts at Northside Park for many TENNIS COURTS years. We commend the City workers for trying to keep the courts clean, but more and (CON'T) more it seems to be a losing battle, as the courts are used and abused for activities other than Tennis. Seen on the courts: Skateboards, roller-blades & hockey sticks, basketballs, bikes, and one late Sunday afternoon, a family complete with BBQ, ice chest and chairs. The enclosed pictures show the mess left behind; typically a weekly scene. Solution: How about locking and unlocking the court's gates night and morning the same as restrooms? Also, some policing would help. Could our group have a key? We really enjoy these courts, but hate the mess. Help! Sincerely, Jan Boyer Condie reported that he had visited the property adjacent to Canyon Park and agrees that CANYON PARK something temporary should be done, however, eventually the Oleander Plants will fill in and become a permanent screen. He does not feel it is necessary to put up anything permanent. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:18 p.m. The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be Thursday, December 18, MTG. ADJOURNED '997 at 5:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park Recreation Center. NEXT MEETING 12/18/97 it 12/4/97
