The meeting was called to order at 5:04 p.m. by Mary Sandlin. Donna McCormick led the group in the CALL TO ORDER
age of allegiance.
PRESENT: David Santellan,Condie Lopez, Donna McCormick, Harry Hoke,Joe Torres,Johnny Sanchez, ROLL CALL
Mary Sandlin, Joe Guarrera.
Minutes were approved as mailed. It was noted to add Johnny Sanchez to the agenda. MINUTES APPROVED
Lenore Gonzales presented each member with a media packet announcing Halloween Haunted House. WELCOME J. SANCHEZ
Conceming question raised last meeting regarding street name banners, it has been learned that several have VICTORY OUTREACH
been stolen and the cost has almost doubled for replacement, and staff has opted not to replace at this time ITEM TABLED
due to budget constraints.

Items 2-4 were approved on a single motion by David Santellan, seconded by Condie Lopez. PIONEER 9/27

Item I was removed from the table and discussion followed. It was moved by Harry Hoke, seconded by
Joe Torres, and unanimously carried to conditionally approve the request contingent upon School District PIONEER NOT
and Police approval and that a draft of the publicity flyer be approved in advance of distribution by the AVAILABLE 10/12

SALLY GARCIA TO USE
Staff gave a brief update on department programs and events. GAZEBO 10/4
A communication for Public Works Superintendent Pedroza concerning 300 W. Ashby regarding lack of
privacy due to the Canyon Park project was read. It was agreed that we should let the vegetation grow and PROGRAM UPDATE
do its job. Condie is to visit the site and report back at next meeting.
INVITE TO PACIFIC
Several trees in the 1000 block of Orange Street are dead or dying and are to be removed. Staff determined COMM. CREDIT UNION
this to be an emergency and three English Elms were removed. Replacements will be planted shortly. HOKE&SANCHEZ
APPOINTMENT
A request to have one Chinese Elm at 306 N. Soldano removed was considered. It was moved by Harry
Hoke, seconded by David Santellan, and unanimously carried to remove the tree and that the property STREET BANNERS
owner pay for a replacement of the designated tree for the street. MISSING
Brief discussion of the proposed Rosedale project followed. It was agreed that Dave Linden and or Pat Loy P&R COMM. MEMBERS
should be invited to a Parks and Recreation Commission meeting for an update. RIDING IN PARADE
Golden Days was discussed,judges will be needed for the best decorated booth competition.
MEETING ADJOURNED
Joe Torres will have his restored Ford pickup ready for the Commission to ride in for the parade.

A new roster of Boards and Commissions was distributed.

The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be Thursday, October 16, 1997 at 5:00 p.m.
at the Memorial Park Recreation Center.
