HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - August 21, 1997 - PRC MINUTES OF AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING -- AUGUST 21 , 1997 The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Mary Sandlin. Joe Torres led the group in the pledge of CALL TO ORDER 'giance. PRESENT: David Santellan, Condie Lopez, Donna McCormick,Joe Torres, Mary Sandlin,Joe Guarrera, ROLL CALL Diane Beebe. EXCUSED: Harry Hoke Minutes were approved as mailed. MINUTES APPROVED Request from Azusa Girl Scouts to use Memorial Park on Thursday, September 18, 1997 from 6:00 to 9:00 GIRL SCOUTS TO USE p.m. for annual Giri Scout Recruitment was considered. Motioned by Donna McCormick, seconded by MEMORIAL PARK 9/I 8/97 Condie Lopez,and unanimously approved. Staff gave a brief overview of various departmental programs and events. PROGRAM OVERVIEW Invitation from SCMAFto a dinner that will be held at Anaheim Stadium scheduled for Tuesday, September INVITE TO ANAHEIM 16, 1997 to be followed by a game between the Angels and the Twins was read. STADIUM A thank you for renewing our annual membership in CAPRCBM was read. CAPRCBM THANK YOU An agreement between the City and the San Gabriel River Water Committee for maintenance of the fence SAN GABRIEL RIVER at Pioneer Park was discussed. It appears the two agencies share jointly in the maintenance. However, upon WATER COMM. readingthe agreement,there is a huge discrepancy in the paragraph describing who owns the parcel. Staff AGREEMENT to resolve. 'N'ew flags for Memorial Park have been received and were being installed when the halyard broke. It will NEW FLAGS FOR be repaired on Monday. MEMORIAL PARK Calendar of workshops was distributed. The next one will be August 25, concerning Rosedale. WORKSHOP CALENDAR Commission/Board interviews will be taking place on September 8, 1997 at 6:00 p.m. at the Light and Water COMMISSION conference room. Harry Hoke is the only candidate with two positions open. INTERVIEWS Vice Mayor Beebe gave a very thorough explanation of the budget process and the reasons for the cuts, and VICE MAYOR BEEBE the proposed ballot measures. She answered questions and did an excellent job of explaining. BUDGET EXPLANATION Question was also raised relative to Commission make-up. She inquired as to the Commission's previous COMMISSION MAKE-UP recommendation of reducing the number to five. The Commission stated that was and is their desire. Mary Sandlin expressed Kudos to the volleyball staff, stating that they are doing a very good job and are MARV SANDLIN KUDOS friendly and helpful. TO VOLLEYBALL STAFF There being no further business,the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m. MEETING ADJOURNED The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be Thursday, September 4, 1997 at 5:00 NEXT MEETING 9/4/97 p.m.at the Memorial Park Recreation Center.
