The meeting was called to order at 5:12 p.m. by Mary Sandlin. Dave Santellan led the group in the pledge CALL TO ORDER
allegiance.
PRESENT: Harry Hoke, David Santellan, Joe Torres, Condie Lopez, Mary Sandlin,Joe Guarrera ROLL CALL
EXCUSED: Donna McCormick
Minutes were approved as mailed. MINUTES APPROVED
items I-9 were approved as recommended on a single motion by Harry Hoke,seconded by Condie Lopez.
1. Request from Alicia Cervantes to use Slauson Pool on Sunday,June 20, 1997 from 4:30-6:30 ALICIA CERVANTES TO
p.m.for birthday party. USE SLAUSON POOL
Recommendation: Approve with appropriate fees and conditions.
2. Request from Angela Sake to use Northside Park on Saturday,August 16, 1997 from 9:00-7:00 ANGELA SALCE TO USE
p.m.for family reunion with moon bounce. NORTHSIDE PARK
Recommendation: Approve moon bounce.
3. Request from Azusa Jr.AAI American Football to use Memorial Park August and September 6:00- AJAAF TO USE MEMORIAL
8:00 p.m.for football and cheerleading practice. No Mondays due to adult softball. PARK
Recommendation: Approve.
4. Request from Saddie Lopez to use Slauson Pool Saturday,July 26, 1997 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. SADDIE LOPEZ TO USE
for family pool party. SLAUSON POOL
Recommendation: Approve.
5. Request from Damien Baldon to use Day Camp room on Saturday,August 2, 1997 from 4:00- DAMIEN BALDON TO
10:00 p.m.for baby shower. USE DAY CAMP ROOM
Recommendation: Approve.
6. Request from Azusa American Little League to use Slauson Pool on Sunday,July 27, 1997 from AALL TO USE SLAUSON
4:30-6:30 p.m.for closing ceremonies. POOL
Recommendation: Approve. AALL TO USE MEETING
7. Request from Azusa American Little League to use a meeting room on Wednesday,July 16,
1997 from 7:00-9:30 p.m.for board and coaches meeting. ROOM
Recommendation: Approve.
EVA SALAZAR TO USE
8. Request from Eva Salazar to use Memorial Park on July 19, 1997 from 12:00 noon to 6:30 p.m. MEMORIAL PARK
with moon bounce.
Recommendation: Approve moon bounce. FRANK HERNANDEZ TO
9. Request from Frank Hemandez to use Pioneer Park on Sunday,August 10, 1997 from 7:00 a.m. USE PIONEER PARK
to 5:00 p.m.for Knight of Columbus family picnic.
Recommendation: Approve with usual conditions.
Staff gave a brief overview of departmental programs and activities. STAFF REPORT
Joe Torres stated that some of the newly planted trees on Aosta west of Citrus appear to by dying. Staff to TREES DYING AT
investigate. ALOSTA&CITRUS
Mary Sandlin shared the following concerns: M. SANDLIN CONCERNS
a. Flags in front of Memorial Park are tattered and should be replaced.
b. Graffiti in men's restroom at Memorial Park building.
c. Slauson Park north east bleacher facing pool -planks are loose.
d. 230 S. Elliott tree raising sidewalk-dangerous.
e. Slauson Park graffiti on picnic benches and tables.
There being no further business,the meeting was adjourned at 5:35 p.m.. MEETING ADJOURNED
The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be Thursday,August 7, 1997 at 5:00 p.m. NEXT MEETING 8/7/97
at the Memorial Park Office.
