The meeting was called to order at 5:12 p.m. by Mary Sandlin. Harry Hoke led the group in the pledge of tables.

by Harry Hoke, and unanimously approved.
1. Request from Cub Scout Pack 414 to use Pioneer Park on Saturday,June 14, 1997 from 10:00
a.m.to 3:00 p.m.for scout picnic. CUB SCOUTS TO USE

2. Request from Kenneth Ball to use Pioneer Park on Sunday, September 14, 1997 from 8:00 a.m.

CHAMBER TO USE
quest 13 from Tito Branca to use 100 chairs and 10 round tables for Chamber of Commerce installation TABLES AND CHAIRS
at Monrovia Nursery on June 29, 1997. Staff indicated that the chairs were not a problem, however,the
round tables are beginning to deteriorate from misuse in handling and should not leave the building.
Suggested that the 8' aluminum tables be used. After brief discussion it was motioned by Harry Hoke,
seconded by Condie Lopez, and unanimously carried to approve as amended with the use of aluminum

Notice was received from CPRS of new and improved agency membership benefits package. Action to CPRS NEW AGENCY

Notice from Azusa Unified School District that Donna McCormick was appointed for another term on DONNA APPOINTED TO
the Parks and Recreation Commission at the board's May 20, 1997 meeting. ANOTHER TERM
The Director received a telephone call from a resident complaining about the misuse of Northside Park RESIDENT
tennis courts. It seems last Sunday she couldn't use the courts because of large groups: 1.)men on one COMPLAINING
court playing some sort of ball game,2.)women on a second court playing some sort of card and dice ABOUT THE MISUSE OF
game, 3.)and children running around the other court. She implied that there may have been gambling NORTHSIDE PARK

Ms. Lorraine Iverson called and was very complimentary to the tree crew and the Park personnel. She COMPLIMENT TO PARKS

Staff is in the process of revising the use policy for the Women's Club. We should have something for the WOMEN'S CLUB POLICY
Commission to review before it goes to City Council. TO BE REVISED
Since we are receiving more requests to use the gazebo at City Park, staff is going to install a sign similar SIGN AT GAZEBO FOR
that placed at Pioneer Park so people will know how to make reservations for its use. RESERVATION INFO
Since we are receiving so many requests for Pioneer Park,staff is considering attaching a reservation fee. PIONEER PARK
Not only are more Azusa citizens requesting its use, but we are now getting requests from as far away as REQUESTS, FEE
El Monte. Staff will be bringing back a proposal soon. ATTACHMENT
The newly revised telephone list of City Council, Board and Commission was presented. Copies of NEW TELEPHONE LIST
same will be included with minutes.
Invitation to L.A. Basin Parks and Recreation commission Association meeting on June 26, 1997 at LA BASIN P&R MEETING
Orangewood Park in West Covina was read and discussed. ft was agreed to attend and move our own
June 19th meeting to the 26th. Staff will make reservations and secure and Aerostar.
Pete MacKay informed the Director of bus driver Kirk Latham's intervention in capturing several youths KIRK LATHAM CAPTURES
who were breaking into a car at the Senior Center on Friday, May 9, 1997. This will be brought to the YOUTHS ATTEMPTING
City Council's attention so that Kirk can be properly recognized for his valiant efforts. TO STEAL A CAR
Memo from City Clerk to City Council regarding Board and Commission Terms of Office was read. It is BOARD&COMM TERMS
being recommended that terms begin October 1st and end September 30th. OF OFFICE
General plot plans for playground equipment to be installed at City and Memorial parks was displayed and PLOT PLAN FOR
discussed. It was consensus that staff be allowed to proceed and their professional best judgement used PLAYGROUND
in equipment selection. EQUIPMENT
Ton-es reported on his recent trip to Sacramento where he observed the new Vietnam Memorial at VIETNAM MEMORIAL IN
the State Capitol. He said it recognizes all those Califomians who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is a most SACRAMENTO
impressive tribute.

Members were reminded that effective June 14, 1997 we will be getting a new are code. We will be NEW AREA CODE, 626
626 instead of 818.
All were reminded of the Helping Hand benefit for Lillian Hoke on Saturday,June 14, 1997 at the HELPING HAND BENEFIT
Women's Club. FOR LILLIAN HOKE
