Jack Bean led the group in the CALL TO ORDER pledge of allegiance. PRESENT: Mary Sandlin,Jack Bean, David Santellan, Donna McCormick, Joe Torres, Condie ROLL CALL Lopez EXCUSED: Harry Hoke OTHERS: Joseph Guarrera, Director MINUTES Minutes were approved as mailed. APPROVED Mary Sandlin entered meeting. MARY ENTERED ' MEETING Items I through 4 were approved on a single motion by Donna McCormick, seconded by Condie Lopez, and unanimously approved. 1. Request from First Presbyterian Church to use Northside Park on Sunday, March 30, REQUEST FROM 1997 from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. for Easter Sunrise Service. IST PRES.CHURCH Recommendation: No action, informational only. 2. Request from Azusa Unified School District Parent GATE Council to use a meeting REQUEST FROM room on Wednesday, May 14, 1997 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for a parent's AUSD meeting. Recommendation: Approve 3. Request from Lenore Gonzales to use Day Camp room on Saturday, May 17, 1997 REQUEST FROM from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for father's surprise 70th birthday party. L. GONZALES Recommendation: Approve 4. Request from Citrus College Alpha Gamma Sigma to use the fun jail on Wednesday, REQUEST FROM April 16, 1997 from 7:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. for scholarships. CITRUS COLLEGE Recommendation: Approve Staff gave a brief update on various programs and events. PROG. REPORT Invitation to the Girl Scouts 85th birthday celebration May 24&25, 1997, at Pomona Fairplex was INVITE TO GIRL read. SCOUTS B-DAY Invitation to CPRS District XIII annual Installation and Awards Dinner, Friday, April 18, 1997 at INVITE TO CPRS Mountain Meadows County Club, Pomona. DINNER The tree proposal will be presented to City Council Monday evening, April 7, 1997. It would be TREE PROPOSAL beneficial to have all members present to show support. We will have two specimen trees to TO CITY show the Council. COUNCIL The April issue of the Senior Center newsletter was distributed. SR.CTR. NEWSLTR. Commission member Donna McCormick expressed appreciation to those responsible for WEEDING ALONG weeding the parkway along Cerritos north of Galdstone. CERRITOS MINUTES OF THE AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION 4/3/97 PAGE TWO Commission member Mary Sandlin expressed concern for the oak trees along Pasadena Ave. OVERGROWN north of Gladstone. They are overgrown and obstruct the street lights; and one low hanging and TREES luld cause damage to taller vehides like motor homes. Commission member David Santellan stated that he had been approached by a park worker DRUG ACTMTY expressing concern over accelerated drug activity at Memorial, Gladstone, and Slauson parks and AT PARKS is fearful of locking up the restrooms at night. Jack Bean offered an explanation for his absences, and stated he has changed jobs and would JACK BEAN probably be available on Thursdays to attend meetings. Staff read the City Council agenda item EXPLANATION OF requesting the position be declared vacant and not to be refilled. ABSENCES There being no further business,the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m. ADJOURN The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be Thursday, April 17, 1997 at NEXT MEETING 5:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park Office. 4/17/97
