HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - October 17, 1996 - PRC MINUTES OF AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING —OCTOBER 17, 1996 The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Mary Sandlin. Harry Hoke led the group in the CALL TO ORDER Pledge of Allegiance. PRESENT: Mary Sandlin,Joe Torres, Condie Lopez , & Harry Hoke, ROLL CALL EXCUSED: Donna McCormick ABSENT: Jack Bean & David Santellan OTHERS: Joe Guarrera, Director Community Services Minutes were approved as mailed. MINUTES APPROVED I. Request from Vivian Mora, 246 N. Alameda, Azusa, to use Memorial Park Recreation Center ROOM meeting room on November 16, 1996 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. for a baby shower. Approved REQUESTNIVIAN by a motion by Joe Torres, seconded by Condie Lopez. MORA 2. Request from Azusa Unified School District to use Northside Park picnic area on April 26, 1997 AUSD/NORTHSIDE for employees picnic. Approved by a motion by Harry Hoke, seconded by Condie Lopez. PARK 4/26/97 3. Request from Zacatecana Baseball League to use Memorial Park northwest baseball field on ZACATECANA Sundays for baseball games/league from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. starting October 27, 1996 and BASEBALL TABLED ending March 3 I , 1997. Tabled for more information. Staff gave a brief overview of various department programs. PROGRAM REPORT Harry Hoke expressed interest in having a tree planted in the parkway between the two driveways REQUEST TREE at 1012 N. Pasadena. PLANTED 1012 N PASADENA Condie Lopez informed staff that a tree at Sierra Madre and Virginia Ann is blocking the Virginia Ann SIERRA MADRE SIGN sign. BLOCKED Staff reported that some concern has been expressed over the recent news articles pertaining to CONCERN OVER lead paint and playground equipment. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission tested and LEAD PAINT ON analyzed paint from 26 playgrounds in 13 cities; of those 16 playgrounds in I I cities had levels of PLAYGROUND lead found in the paint on playground equipment that are high enough to be recognized as a Federal EQUIPMENT priority for lead hazard control measures. It is my understanding that only painted equipment prior to 1980 is in question. We in Azusa have AZUSA'S PLAY nothing older than 1987, so there is no danger.
