Parker, arch. ' Motion carried by the following vote of Council: Ayea: Councilmen: Barry, Johnson, Memmesheimer, Jackson Noes: Counbilmen Ortuno Councilman Barry pointed out that the $10,000 difference Statement of consisting of the $6,000 that the City is already being Clmn. Barry billed for, plus the $4,000 difference between the cost of the new architect and the previous contract, will never purchase recreation equipment the children of Azusa will be able to use. Furthermore, letting this contract necessitates instituting a delay in time in realizing a recreation center, at least to the extent of 6 months, the other plans having been delayed at least that long previously. The original plans were drawn by Brooks to meet $175,000 as this construction calls for. The estimated price having been brought to $200,000 came at the request of the Park and Recreation Commission after consideration. I would like to read an excerpt from the minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting held on October 1st, 1953 as follows: "Topic of the special meeting was a review of the changes made on sketches of the proposed community center building. Chairman Paroulek passed out copies of the sketch to all Commission members. All changes suggested by the Commission at their regular meeting had been incorporated in the revised sketch. Having met with the approval of the entire Commission, it was agreed that sketch and accompanying information be presented to the Council on October 5th." ' For the above reason I feel the plans already approved should be put in effect. Since this is not possible with the present Council and since I am as anxious a the Park and Recreation Commission to provide adequate recreation for the City at the earliest possible date, I am going to vote "yes" on the new contract. " Councilman Ortuno stated he voted "no" because he feels we already have adequate plans on hand.
