HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - May 16, 1996 - PRC MINUTES OF AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING -- MAY 16, 1996 meeting was called to order at 5:05 by Chairman, Joe Torres. Dave Santellan led the CALL TO ORDER group in the Pledge of Allegiance PRESENT: Joe Torres, David Santellan, Donna McCormick, Condie Lopez, Mary ROLL CALL Sandlin, OTHERS: Joe Guarrera, Director Community Services George Minich • 1 , EXCUSED: Jack Bean & .deel4=PArast le4AP6, The minutes of April 18, 1996 were approved as mailed. MINUTES APPROVED There was no meeting on May 2, due to lack of quorum. LACK OF QUORUM 5/2 Mr. George Minich of 1114 N. Pasadena Ave. appeared to express concern for how his parkway tree is being trimmed. He also had some concerns for the street sweeper and GEORGE MINICH other city services He was asked what it was he wanted the Commission to do. He stated CONCERNS - 1114 N. that he wanted every one to see what a poor job the city crew did on his tree. Staff found PASADENA that on Oct, 19, 1995, his request to have the two Elm trees removed was approved. However, nothing had been done because he did not return the authorization letter; which he had with him. He was again asked what he wanted done so that we could act on his request and he again stated he wanted everyone to see what a poor job was done to his s. He was reminded that nothing could be done until he signed and returned the Sertnorization letter. He was excused and the meeting continued. Items number 1-4, 6, 7 & 9 were approved on a single motion by David Santellan, seconded ITEMS APPROVED by Condie Lopez. 1. Request from Glendora Alliance Church to use Slauson Pool, Saturday, August 10, 1996, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. for approximately 250 people. Recommendation: Approve request with appropriate fees. 2. Request from Glendora Alliance Church to use BBQ's on Saturday, August 10, 1996. Recommendation: Approve request with appropriate fees. 3. Request from Vanessa Lastrapes to use Slauson Pool, June 23, 1996, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for birthday swim party for 75 people. Recommendation: Approve request with appropriate fees. 4. Request from Cristina Madrid to use Slauson Pool, Saturday, June 22, 1996 for Graduation Swim Party. Recommendation: Approve request with appropriate fees. 6. Request from Azusa City Employees Recreation Organization to use Slauson Pool, Saturday, June 8, 1996, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for City Employees Picnic and Swim Party. Recommendation: Approve 7. Request from County Park Beach and Recreation Act of 1996 to endorse the November County ballot. Recommendation: Deny L, 9. Request from Mervyn's to use Northside Park ball field on Sunday evenings, June 2, 30, July 14, August 4, 11 & 25, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Recommendation: Approve request with appropriate fees 5/16/96 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES - MAY 16, 1996 PAGE TWO 5 request from Mayflower School PTA Monrovia to use the Fun Jail on Friday June 7, MAYFLOWER 1396, 4:30 to 7:45 p.m. was discussed. After brief discussion, it was Moved by Marvin SCHOOUFUN JAIL Sandlin, seconded by David Santellan to approve the request with all Appropriate fees and delivery and pick up costs of city staff to transport, also Certificate of Insurance for 1 million naming City as additional insured. Item 8 request for Liberty Candle to use City Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 28, LIBERTY 19 & 30 for a craft fair was read and discussed. After brief discussion, it was moved by CANDLE/CITY PARK Marvin Sandlin, seconded by Donna McCormick to deny the request and refer them to the Farmers Market which is the venue for crafters on a weekly basis. Invitation to L. A. Basin Quarterly meeting , Wed, June 19, 1996 in La Mirada was presented L.A. BASIN L - no action taken. Correspondence from Betty Hamilton and Gretchen Sterling of Certified Farmers Market, was FARMERS MARKET read. They reiterated the importance of continuing outreach and publicity. They praised Lenore Gonzales for her work. Copy of a letter to Azusa American Little League from the City Attorney with a donation of AMERICAN LL SIGN $100.00 for the light campaign was shared Brief report of the Innovations & Efficiency Committee was given. Copies of the report will INNOVATIONS & be soon available to the members of the Commission. EFFICIENCY COMM. ,faff has sent a letter to State representatives seeking support for AB 2910 for a State Park AB 2919 Bond Act for November 1996 There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:28 p.m. ADJOURN Next meeting scheduled for June 6, 1996, at the Memorial Park Recreation Center.
