meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. by Chairman, Joe Torres who led the group CALL TO ORDER
Itirsne Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Joe Torres, David Santellan, Mary Sandlin, Condie Lopez, Donna ROLL CALL
McCormick, Jack Bean, Harry Hoke
OTHERS: Joe Guarrera, Director of Community Services and Louie Pedroza,
Superintendent of Public Works
EXCUSED:
The minutes of March 7, 1996 were approved as mailed. MINUTES APPROVED
Items number 1, 2, and 3 were approved on a single motion. Motioned by David Santellan,
seconded by Condie Lopez.
1. Request from Slauson Middle School to use ball fields April 23 to May 29, 2:30 to SLAUSON TO USE
4:15 p.m. for middle school season softball games. BALL FIELDS
Recommendation: Approve
2. Request from Anita Ramirez to use Pioneer Park on Sunday, June 2, 1996 from ANITA RAMIREZ TO
11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the Stenmo family reunion. USE PIONEER PARK
Recommendation: Approve
3. Request from Club Esperanza to extend the hours of use on August 18 and CLUB ESPERANZA
December 15 (regular meeting dates) for Club Dance at Senior Center. TO EXTEND HOURS
Recommendation: Approve OF USE 8/18, 12/15
Item 4 request from Park Supervisor to have six trees removed was discussed. It was TREES REMOVED
agreed to approve removal of trees at the following locations: 737 E. Glenlyn Street, 909 N.
San Gabriel and 500 block S. Pasadena. The following locations were tabled for discussion:
401 S. Angeleno, 911 N. Soldano and 313 S. Calera.
Item 5 request to establish a "Tree City USA" sub-committee was approved on a motion by ESTABLISH "TREE
Mary Sandlin, seconded by Jack Bean. CITY USA"
Staff has sent in a preliminary application for a "pre-approved" project for the new county PRELIMINARY APP
bond issue for November 1996. This is similar to the bond issue which funded the Slauson FOR BOND ISSUE
Pool project. The project identified is expansion of Zacatecas Park utilizing the adjacent FOR NOVEMBER
Sanitation District property.
The long awaited Farmers Market opened at 4:00 p.m. today and all are invited to visit. Be FARMERS MARKET
sure to let Lenore Gonzales know her hard work in organizing this project is appreciated. OPENED
Mary mentioned that the flags at Memorial Park need to be replaced as they are tattered and MEMORIAL PARK
worn. Staff to follow up. FLAGS
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:28 p.m. ADJOURN
