le meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. by Chairman, Joe Torres. Joe Torres led CALL TO ORDER
The group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Joe Torres, David Santellan, Mary Sandlin, Condie Lopez, Donna ROLL CALL

Public Works, Mr & Mrs. Navarette
EXCUSED: Jack Bean and Harry Hoke
The minutes of February 15, 1996 were approved as mailed. MINUTES APPROVED
Item number 7 was moved to the top of the consent calendar for discussion. Mr. and Mrs. CONSENT
Navarette appealed the Commission's decision to not remove their parkway tree. Mr. and CALENDAR
Mrs. Navarette addressed the Commission with photographs of the tree in question and the
damage it has caused. One commissioner, David Santellan, viewed the area and agreed TREE REMOVED
that the tree was causing root damage to the sidewalk, driveway and front lawn of the FOR MR. AND MRS.

to remove the tree in question and replant with the correct species away from the water and

Consent calendar item number 4 was pulled for discussion.

1. Request from VFW to use Pioneer Park, Saturday, April 6, 1996, 8:00 to 11:00 PIONEER PARK
a.m. for Annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Recommendation: Approve MURRAY TO USE
2. Request from Murray School to use 3 propane grills on Saturday, March 30, 1996, GRILLS
7:00 to 11:00 a.m. for school pancake breakfast.
Recommendation: Approve with appropriate fees. BOY SCOUTS TO
3. Request from Boy Scout Troop 412 to use one propane grill, Saturday, May 18, USE GRILL

Item number 4, request from Asamblea Apostolica, Inc. Church of Azusa to use Memorial ASAMBLEA
Park for a church rally on March 30, 1996 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After a brief APOSTOLICA TO
discussion, it was motioned by Mary Sandlin, seconded by David Santellan to approve. The USE MEMORIAL
group will be restricted to the west double size picnic shelter, no amplified music will be PARK
allowed. No sale of food or drink will be permitted.
Staff reported on playgrounds, youth sports, adult sports, Senior Programs, Transportation, PROGRAM REPORT

Commission was informed of a L.A. Basin meeting on Thursday, March 28, 1996. LA BASIN MEETING
Staff handed out a proposal initiated by Louie Pedroza with the Public Works Department TREE CITY USA
to have Azusa become a "Tree City USA". Commission members were asked to review
the proposal for discussion at the next meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p.m. ADJOURN
Next meeting scheduled for March 21, 1996, at the Memorial Park Recreation Center. NEXT MTG. 3/21/96
