Call to Order B. Pledge of Allegiance C. Roll Call: Sandlin, Hoke, Torres, Santellan, McCormick, Lopez, Sanchez D. Approval of Minutes of 7/16/98 meeting. Meeting of 8/3/98 not held due to lack of quorum. E. Ceremonial/Public Participation F. Consent 1. Request from Mirna Gomez to use Pioneer Park Northeast section on October 10, 1998, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a child's 2"d birthday party; 50 people to attend. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with standard fees and conditions. 2. Request from Olivia Betancourt to use Memorial Park Room #5 on September 26, 1998, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. for a baby shower; 20-35 people to attend. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with standard fees and conditions. 3. Request from Christine Mendoza to use a children's bounce at Northside Park on September 12, 1998, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event is a children's birthday party with 20 people to attend. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with standard conditions. 4. Request from Camsco Mfg. Corp. of Azusa to use Northside Park South Field on Wednesday, September 9, 1998 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for a company softball game. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with standard conditions and fees. 5. Request from Zamora family to use Pioneer Park Northeast section on September 12, 1998, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. for a birthday party with 50+ people to attend. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with standard conditions. G. Informational 1. The Azusa Centennial Committee is requesting permission to erect a permanent monument at City Park to celebrate the City of Azusa's 100th birthday. The Committee is requesting construction of a series of 16 x 16 x 60" (approximately) block pillars that will be faced with the Centennial tiles done by the public at the Azusa Centennial Celebration Festival. These pillars will be located along the walkway next to the Durrell House and the Sister City House. 2. Program update. a. Recreation: Randy Noriega, Joe Jacobs (on vacation). b. Parks: Rich Rivera H. Public Hearings I. Other Business: Commission members and/or Council liaison. 1. Mary Sandlin's Parks and Recreation Commission term expires on September 30, 1998. Marv's seat is appointed by the Parks and Recreation Commission. Notification must be submitted to the City Clerk's office by September 24, 1998 as to who's been appointed. The commission has two approaches to handle the upcoming expiration of Marv's term. a. If Mary is willing, the Board can nominate and approve Mary for another term. O.� b. Advertise,accept applications,interview,and select a Board Memberin an open recruitment style. J. Next meeting,Thursday, September 17, 1998 at 5:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park Recreation Office. K. Adjournment. CITY OF AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING �.. SEPTEMBER 3, 1998 LATE CONSENT CALENDAR ITEMS 1. Request from the Velasco family of Azusa to use Memorial Park Room #5 on Saturday, September 12, 1998, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. for a graduation party; approximately 50 people to attend. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with standard fees and conditions. 2. Request from Golden Days Committee to use City Park on Sunday, October 4, 1998, from 12:00-6:00 p.m. for Family Fun Festival; approximately 1,500 people to attend. Additional request was made for P.A. system, 12 tables, 20 chairs, 1 BBQ, 1 20' X 24' stage, 6 carnival games, and 4 extensioQ cords. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with no fee as Recreation Division will be assisting Golden Days Committee on this event. 3. Request from Golden Days Committee to use Memorial Park Rooms #5, #8, #4,and kitchen for post-parade luncheon on Saturday, October 10, 1998, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; approximately 100 participants to attend. RECOMMENDATION:Approve with no fee as this is a cooperative event with the City. �-- 4. Request from Head Start to use Memorial Park Rooms #5, #4, and #10 from September 6, 1998,through June 15, 1999, from 8:30 a.m.to 3:00 p.m.as needed for parents meetings, workshops, staff meetings, etc. Group sizes vary from 10-45 people. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with no fee and with a notation that the Recreation Division activities have first priority on Memorial Park room use. 5. Request from Marcelo Ramirez (Azusa Adult Softball team manager) to use Gladstone Park ball field on Tuesday, September 8, 1998, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. for softball practice. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with standard fees and conditions. 6. Request from Azusa Chamber of Commerce to use Gladstone Park ball field on Wednesday, October 7, 1998, to conduct the Azusa Golden Days Little People Softball Game. All proceeds from this event are donated to charity on behalf of the Little People's Fund. RECOMMENDATION: Approve with no fee. 7. Request from San Gabriel Valley Harley Owners Group to use Pioneer Park on Sunday, September 27, 1998, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for family picnic; approximately 120 people to attend. RECOMMENDATION: Discuss.
