CITY HALL AZUSA, CALIFORNIA TUESDAY JULY 6, 1954 7:30 P.M.
A tentative priority list of proposed street improvements
projects was submitted in a written recommendation by the
Engineer, said projects being recommended for completion
in the current fiscal year to the maximum extent permitted
by available funds.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman Johnson
recommendations of Engineer be accepted regarding priority
list of proposed projects. There being no objections, the
motion passed by unanimous vote.
Engineer Williamson recommended that an appraisor be hired
to establish a price for the acquisition of property necessary
for widening Vernon Avenue.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman Johnson
City Attorney and City Engineer take necessary steps for the
acquisition of property so that the street may be improved.
There being no protests the motion was ordered passed.
Councilman Johnson offered the following resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, IAS
ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING AID FOR CERTAIN STREET
IMPROVEMENTS FROM THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
Moved by Councilman Romero, seconded by Councilman Fawcett,
that resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution
No. 3047.

Engineer Williamson stated that a protest should be made by the
City to the owner of property located on the north side of Sierra
Madre Avenue, opposite to where Azusa Avenue meets Sierra Madre
Avenue because of the -drainage condition existing since a road Drainage
'has been built on his property which has diverted the natural condition to
drainage flow. be protested
Moved by Councilman Johnson, seconded by Councilman Romero and
unanimously carried, that this matter be referred to the City
Attorney.
The Comniunity'Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles
has suggested'the adoption of a Community Redevelopment program
whereby blighted neighborhoods, through cooperation with pr±vate
enterprise and public agencies, the blighted areas can be Community
acquired, cleared, and rebuilt or rehabilitAted into attractive Redevelopment
healthful communities.
Mayor Memmesheimer recommended that a committee be formed to
study and conduct a redevelopment program and that Council
members consider names to be submitted at a later date for the
formation of such a committee.
Service agreement with the Stockwell and Binney Company for
servicing.typewriters in the Light and Water Department
was -submitted for the Mayor's signature.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman Johnson
and unanimously carried, that Mayor be authorized to sign
agreement.
Absent: Councilman Ortuno
The letter of resignation signed by Antonio Samarron, Meter
Reader in -the Light and Water Department, was read to be
effective July 2, 1954.
Moved by Councilman Johnson, seconded by Councilman Fawcett
and unanimously carried, resignation be accepted, effective
July 2, 1954 and Attorney instructed to draw resolution of
termination.

Discussion -was held on the possibility of the City adopting
the County Fire Code by Reference. There is a question, however,
of the ability of the City to amend sections of the Code and County Fire
further discussion was tabled until the City Attorney could Code by Ref

Engineer Williamson reported that he had made an inspection
of the building at 718 No. San Gabriel Avenue, at which location
a business license had been requested for operating an auto-
matic.laundryette. The only unsatisfactory condition was in Request for

The City Attorney reported that the company that had done
business with R. H. Rhodes (Dusty Rhodes) had been notified
aftbe the City -Clerk was served with a "Restraining Order"
prohibiting'the City from paying moneys to R. H. Rhodes.
The Order to Show Cause is returnable at the Superior Court in
Pasadena, July 9, 1954 at 9:30 A.M. Mr. Rhodes was awarded
the contract, by the City, for constructing an Utility Bldg.
at Slauson Park.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman Johnson
and unanimously carried, that the City Attorney and City Clerk
will appear in Court at the appointed time with necessary

that the City Engineer and the City Attorney prepare a legel
description, or descriptions, and map of the taninhabited
territory lying north of the westerly prolongation of the
southerly boundazy of the City of Azusa, east of the meander
southeasterly boundary line of the Santa Fe Dam and the San
Gabriel'River, west of the Westerly boundary of San Gabriel
Canyon'Road (State Route 39) including all area within these
limits not presently included within the City of Azusa, in
one or more parts; it was further moved that the aforesaid
legal description, or descriptions, be presented to the City
Council for'approval, and that thereafter the said legal
description; or descriptions, be presented to the Los Angeles
County Boundary Commission for approval; further moved was
that, upon receipt of the approval of the Los Angeles County
Boundary Commission that the City Engineer, the City Attorney,
