VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER
CONSENT ITEM E-7
FROM: MIKI CARPENTER, DIRECTOR OF RECREATION AND FAMILY SERVICES
DATE: DECEMBER 17, 2018
SUBJECT: APPROVE THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF NEW LED RETROFIT
LIGHTING BY MUSCO SPORTS LIGHTING, LLC FOR MEMORIAL PARK TENNIS
COURT PROJECT
BACKGROUND:
The Recreation and Family Services Department has the Memorial Park Tennis Court Project as part of its
approved capital improvement budget for fiscal year 2018-19. This action waives the competitive bidding
process as authorized by Section 2.521 (a) of the Azusa Municipal Code and approves the purchase and
installation of this lighting from Musco Sports Lighting, LLC. This company has already won the bid
process nationally through Sourcewell (Formerly National Joint Powers Alliance Contract Number
082114-MSL).
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions:
1)Waive the competitive bid process as authorized under Azusa Municipal Code Section 2.521(a) and
approve the purchase and installation of new LED retrofit lighting by Musco Sports Lighting, LLC,
for the Memorial Park tennis court project, in the amount not to exceed $67,855.56, which includes
a 10% contingency for potential change orders as needed; and
2)Authorize the City Manager to execute all documents necessary to effectuate the purchase of the
lighting equipment.
ANALYSIS:
There are a total of six light poles at the Memorial Park tennis courts. Three of the poles are in the turf
area and three are fixed in cement. Two of the poles in the turf area have fallen due to windstorms over the
last couple of years. The third pole is also in need of replacement. The overall project will replace three
damaged poles and all six lights for the tennis court area. This current request is for the approval of all six
LED lights that will be attached to both the existing and new poles. The three new poles are budgeted for
in the Recreation and Family Services approved 2018-19 capital improvement budget.
