SUBJECT: NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK, APRIL 13-19, 1997
National Library Week is an annual nationwide observance sponsored by the American Library
Association each April. Each year many thousands of libraries-public, school and academic will
join in to celebrate libraries and librarians, and to promote library use and support.
This year's National Library Week, April 13-19, 1997 celebrates the wonderful world of learning j
and fun to be fund with the theme"KidsConnect @ the Library".
The goal : to encouragparents, grandparents, and other care givers to bring children to libraries
early and often to help them connect to books, computers and other resources that will help them
to learn and grow throughout their lives.
During the National Library Week, the library will offer a full week of activities, including
special children story hours, crafts and special day on Wednesday, April 16 to connect our
youngster to Internet all day and let them navigate the information superhighway.
Staff is requesting that the City Council to a sign a proclamation for this event and join us to
celebrate the National Library Week.
Schedule for these programs will be publicized in local papers and Cable T.V. .

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK PROCLAMATION
APRIL 13-19, 1997
Whereas, our nation's public, school and academic libraries play a vital role in helping people of
all ages connect with books, computers, videotapes and other resources they need to learn and
grow;
Whereas, libraries offer preschool stroyhours and programs to help children learn and enjoy
reading;
Whereas, libraries provide access to the information superhighway for all people;
Whereas, children and their families view librarians as friends and teachers available to answer
questions and guide them;
Whereas, library services remain free to every citizen, providing equal opportunity for people of
all ages and backgrounds; and
Whereas, libraries nationwide are celebrating National Library Week with the theme "
KidsConnect @ the Library;"
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Azusa proclaim April 13-19,
1997,National Library Week in the City of Azusa and encourage all adults to take a child to a
library this week and help them to connect to a wonderful world of learning, adventure and
imagination.
