AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING
SECTION 8.62.010 OF THE AZUSA MUNICIPAL CODE
AND ADDING SECTION 8.62.080 THERETO RELATING
TO THE LENGTH OF TIME PERSONS MAY STAY AT A
MOTEL OR HOTEL
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 8.62.010 of the Azusa Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"8.62.010 FINDINGS AND DEFINITION. The City
Council of the City of Azusa finds and declares as
follows:
A. The purpose of Sections 8.62 . 020 through
8. 62. 070 of this Chapter is to prevent the
development of the types of nuisances described in
the California Red Light Abatement Law, Penal Code
Section 11225, et seq.
B. The purpose of Section 8. 62 .080 of this
Chapter is to prevent hotels and motels from
becoming permanent multiple-family residential
facilities. Chapter 19 .16 of the Azusa Municipal
Code requires multiple-family residential
facilities to have certain height limits, lot size,
lot area per building unit, yard area, building
separation, off-street parking, usable open space,
ground coverage and minimum size per unit . These
regulations are not required of hotels and motels
because such facilities are intended only for
temporary occupancy of persons. Hotels and motels
are, however, being used for long-term occupancies
without the minimum necessary improvements for
multiple-family residential facilities.
C. The regulations set forth in this Chapter
are reasonably related to the accomplishment of the
purposes set forth herein and will not unduly
interfere with the legitimate operation of public
lodgings within the City.
D. As used in this Chapter, "public lodging
facility" shall mean any hotel, motel, lodging
house, boarding house, trailer court or similar
public lodging facility. "
SECTION 2. Section 8.62.080 is hereby added to the
Azusa Municipal Code to read as follows:
"8.62.080 LONG-TERM OCCUPANCIES PROHIBITED.
A. No owner, operator or manager of a hotel
or motel (as defined in Sections 19.04. 360 and
19.04.540) shall permit any unit of such hotel or
motel to be occupied by a registered guest for a

period in excess of thirty ( 30) consecutive
calendar days.
B. The provisions of Subsection A shall not
apply to guests who have occupied a hotel or motel
unit for four ( 4) consecutive months or more prior
to the effective date of this Section until one (1)
year after the effective date of this Section. "
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be
published as required by law.

do hereby certify that the foregoing Ordinance No. 2380
was regularly introduced and placed upon its first reading
at a regular meeting of the City Council on the 12th day of
September , 1988. That thereafter, said Ordinance was
duly adopted and passed at a regular meeting of the City
Council on the 19th day of September , 1988, by the
following vote, to wit:
