AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING THE AZUSA MUNICIPAL
CODE BY ADDING THERETO CHAPTER 2. 18 CON-
SISTING OF SECTIONS 2.18.010 - 2. 18.040
REFERRING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CUL-
TURAL AND HISTORICAL LANDMARK COMMISSION.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Azusa Municipal Code is hereby amended
by adding thereto a new Chapter 2.18 consisting of Sections
2.18.010 - 2.18.040 to read as follows:
"Section 2.18.010. Created. There is hereby
established and created a Cultural and Histor-
ical Landmark Commission in and for the City.
"Section 2.18.020. Appointment. The Cultural
and Historical Landmark Commission shall con-
sist of seven members, none of whom shall be
officers or employees of the City. Of the
members of the Commission first appointed, two
shall be appointed for terms of one year; two
for terms of two years; two for terms of three
years; and one for a term of four years. The
successors of the members of the Commission
first appointed shall be appointed for terms
of four years. All members shall be appointed
by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the City
Council. Members of the commission may be re-
moved upon a majority vote of the Council. Va-
cancies occurring in the commission shall be
filled in the same manner as provided for in
the initial appointment. Members of the com-
mission shall hold office until their reap-
pointment or until their successors have been
appointed and have qualified.
"Section 2.18.030. Powers and Duties. The pow-
ers and duties of the Cultural and Historical
Landmark Commission shall be:
-1) To act in an advisory capacity to the
City Council in all matters pertaining to the
designation of places, buildings, structures,
works of art and other objects, having a spec-
ial character or special historical or aesthetic
interest or value, as cultural or historical
items of interest to the community.
(2) To act in an advisory capacity to the
City Council in all matters pertaining to the
establishment of special conditions or regula-
tions for the protection, enhancement, perpetua-
tion or use, which may include appropriate and
reasonable control of the use or appearance of
neighboring private property within public view
of places, buildings, structures, works of art,
and other objects, having a special character
or special cultural or historical value to the
City.
(3) To consult with the Azusa Womens '
Club, the Azusa Historical Society, the Azusa
Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles His-
torical Conservancy for the purpose of perform-
ing the duties outlined in subparagraphs 1 and
2 above and to advise the City Council relative
to communications with such organizations.
(4) To perform such other advisory func-
tions as may be referred to or requested of
them by the City Council.
"Section 2.18.040. Compensation. The members of
the Cultural and Historical Landmark Commission
shall recieve compensation in an amount to be
established by City Council Resolution for their
services as members of the commission. Members
shall also be reimbursed for any reasonable and
necessary expenses incurred by them in the per-
formance of their duties as members of the com-
mission.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the pas-
sage of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published
as required by law.

I , ADOLPH SOLIS, City Clerk of the City of Azusa, do
hereby certify that the foregoing Ordinance No. 2146 was reg-
ularly introduced and placed upon its first reading at a regu-
lar meeting of the City Council on the 4th day of October
1982. That thereafter, said Ordinance was duly adopted and
passed at a regular meeting of the City Council on the 1st day
of November , 1982, by the following vote, to wit:

NOES: COUNCILMEN: NONE
ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: NONE
