MORROW, DIRECTOR OF UTILITIE DATE: MAY 26, 2015 SUBJECT: TOP TEN WATER CONSUMERS UPDATE Over the last decade or so, the top ten water consumers in Azusa Light & Water territory have done remarkably well in their conservation efforts. Nine out of the ten customers have reduced their consumption from 13% to 56%, which equates to just under 1 million CCF or 9% of the system peak consumption. In comparing to the prior year consumption, seven of the top ten consumers have reduced between 8% and 56%, with Azusa Unified School District leading the pack with an annual savings of over 130,000 CCF. All of the top consumers have made efforts to conserve water. The following are some of the more notable projects: • Participated in the Upper District's turf removal program • Installed artificial turf • Installed water recirculation systems • Conducted water use and landscape surveys with direct install landscape retrofits • Replaced old dishwashing equipment with new high efficiency units • Installed new state of the art dust suppression system Based on proposed State emergency regulations, Azusa Light & Water and its customers will need to reduce water consumption by 20% from 2013 levels beginning June 1. AL&W's consumption in the 2013 baseline year was just shy of 8.0 million CCF. A 20% reduction from 2013 consumption amounts to annual sales of approximately 6.4 million CCF for a reduction of about 1.6 million CCF. To accomplish this additional reduction in water consumption, new measures are being considered by ALW such as water use audits for the Commercial/Industrial/Institutional customers, turf removal by all customer classes, establishment of drought penalties and additional advertisement/awareness programs.
