AGENDA ITEM
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: LOUIE H. PEDROZA JR. , SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC WORKS L H P
VIA: CITY ADMINISTRATO1,,
DATE: NOVEMBER 5, 1990
SUBJECT: AMENDMENT OF DESIGNATED PARKWAY TREE ON THE
300 BLOCK W. ELLSWORTH STREET
The Public Works Department is requesting a change of the
designated tree on the 300 block of W. Ellsworth Street. The
current designated parkway tree is the Magnolia Grandiflora
"Southern Magnolia, " however, there are no such trees on this
street at the present time.
A tree species that is growing in popularity is the Clorisa "Silk
Floss. " Our Civic Center complex has two newly planted trees of
this type that are already well established. Also, developers
are presently using this species in their landscape plans.
There is currently one resident on this street in the middle of a
garage addition which requires him to plant a new parkway tree.
Approval of this amendment to our present designated tree list
will enable him to plant a tree and receive the final on his
permit. In speaking with other residents, many have agreed to
follow suit in order to create a uniform appearance, as there are
currently four different species within this one block.
Review and recommendation has already been presented to the Parks
and Recreation Commission and their approval has been granted.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the amendment of
the designated parkway tree on the 300 block of W. Ellsworth
Street from the Magnolia Grandiflora "Southern Magnolia" to the
Clorisa "Silk Floss. "
