HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-06 Staff Report - Aquatics Replaster Project at Slauson ParkCONSENT ITEM E-6 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: MIKI CARPENTER, DIRECTOR OF RECREATION AND FAMILY SERVICES DATE: FEBRUARY 19, 2019 SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO RELEASE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR THE RE- PLASTERING OF CHILD AND SLIDE POOLS AT SLAUSON PARK AQUATICS CENTER BACKGROUND: The Slauson Park Aquatics Center, constructed in 1994, was and still remains a premier aquatics complex in the region. The Center has provided for summer activities, classes, and events for the last 26 years for youth, families and seniors. The Center is used year-round, with Azusa Pacific University also renting the pool during non-summer months. The large pool was re-plastered December 2014, and the two smaller pools were re-plastered approximately twelve years ago and are again due for this renovation. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council take the following action: 1)Authorize staff to release a request for proposals for the re-plastering of the child and slide pools at Slauson Park Aquatics Center. ANALYSIS: The child and slide pools at the Slauson Park Aquatics Center are in need of re-plastering and this proposed project will greatly improve the condition of the pools for residents. The summer programs are schedule to begin on June 8, 2019 and the plastering of these must take place in the off-season, prior to this date. Timing of work will maximize the use of the pool and minimize any disruption in existing programming. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with the recommended action. Staff will return to Council for authorization to award a contract after proposals are received and analyzed.
