Hardship:The project hardship is due to the narrow width of the existing lot. Existingdevelopment on east and south prevent acquisition of additional areas for increaseaccess. The hose pull deficiencies to the most distant point of the building beyondthe 150' pull from the frontage street is 85' out of access from each of the hosepulldirections. The site is senior living residential projectD. Proposed Alternative Fire Protection Measures:xWet standpipe connections (connected to the building automatic fire sprinklersystem) will be installed at the end of each 150' hose pull reach to provide coverageof the exterior walls of the buildings where located beyond the area covered by the150' hose pull lengths. This will allow hose bundles to be used at this point forwardto complete the coverage of all areas of the building.All exterior wet standpipe outlets will be in locations that facilitate their use (no morethan 18 inches from the pathway), unobstructed by landscape or other amenities andconspicuously marked with signage as approved by LA CO Fire. Standpipes may befree-standing or mounted on building. In all cases, the standpipe will be protectedfrom physical damage using appropriate barriers.The AM&M proposal and acceptance letter shall be copied onto the architectural, alarm,sprinkler, and standpipe plans submitted to LACO Fire for review in addition to thearchitectural plans submitted to LACO Fire. The architect/developer shall be responsiblefor rectifying any errors or omissions arising from failure to provide these documents onthese submittals.It is our belief that the proposed alternate fire protection methods and modificationsdeveloped both enhance and protect the building and more importantly provide additionalprotection for fire personnel and the public.Approval of this alternate methods and materials request is contingent uponacceptance of the design and installation of the fire walls and other constructionfeatures by the Building Department.
