HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-5 Staff Report - Notice of Completion Azusa A Art StructureCONSENT ITEM E-5 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: DANIEL BOBADILLA, P.E., DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER DATE: MARCH 18, 2019 SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF PROJECT COMPLETION AND AUTHORIZATION TO FILE A NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THE ART MONUMENT ADJACENT TO THE AZUSA INTERMODAL TRANSIT CENTER BACKGROUND: In an effort to aesthetically enhance the surrounding areas of the Azusa Intermodal Transit Center, Staff worked with the Gold Line Station artist, Jose Antonio Aguirre, to develop art design alternatives. On October 26, 2015, the City Council approved an agreement with Jose Antonio Aguirre to fabricate and install an art monument resembling the letter “A” on the southeast corner of Azusa Avenue and the transit center bus way. The proposed actions will accept the art monument and authorize staff to file a Notice of Completion with the County Recorder’s Office. RECOMMENDATIONS: It is recommended that the City Council take the following actions: 1)Accept the completion of the art monument; and 2)Authorize Staff to file a Notice of Completion for the art monument. ANALYSIS: On October 26, 2015, the City Council approved an agreement with Jose Antonio Aguirre to fabricate and install an art monument resembling the letter “A” at the southeast corner of Azusa Avenue and the transit center bus way. This artwork provides connectivity among the art components on the southern wall of the transit center and the Azusa Downtown Metro Gold Line Station. The “A” monument is expected to enhance the transit customer experience, draw people to the Azusa Downtown area, and create a place where people from the community and surrounding areas can gather.
