NOTICE AND CALL OF A SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA:
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Special Meeting of the City Council is hereby called to be held
MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2015, immediately following the Utility Board Meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
in the Azusa Light and Water Conference Room located at 729 N. Azusa Avenue, Azusa, California.
Said Special Meeting shall be for discussing, hearing and taking action on the items listed below:

Each person or representative of a group shall be allowed to speak without interruption for up to five (5)

has completed his/her comments.

Major Accomplishments in Last 12 Months
1. Celebrated 20 Year Anniversary of the Azusa Aquatic Center at
Slauson Park and the 65 Year Anniversary of Memorial Park
2. With the assistance of L&W Public Benefit Fund, completed Senior
Center LED Lighting Enhancement Project$33,000
3. With the assistance of Economic and Community Development,
procured a $289,000 grant from Gloria Molina's Office. Grant funded
the following completed projects in the past 12 months.
a. Replacement of Playground Surfacing at Pioneer, Veteran's Freedom
and Memorial Park
b. Northside Park Walking Path
c. Re-plastering of Large Pool
d. Restroom Replacement at Zacatecas Park
4. Tree City USA Designation for the 12th Consecutive Year
5. Department generated over $75,000 in revenue to augment
Department Programs and CIP Projects in an effort to benefit Azusa
residents without impact to the General Fund. These include:
a. Kids Come First Golf $27,000
b. MPK Gym Ad $30,000
c. Picnic Shelter Rentals $19,000

Subject: (Partial) Project List FY 2015-16 (as directed at 3/18/15
Leadership Meeting)
Date: March 24, 2015
1. Fencing Project at Gladstone Park$191,000
Description of Improvements: The project would consist of the demolition and
replacement of fencing at ball field at Gladstone Park, as well as installation of
"Driving Range Height" netting on first base side adjacent to Russell Street in an
effort to further combat foul balls.
Justification or Significance of Improvement: Replacement of obsolete fencing at
Gladstone Park and construction of"Driving Range" netting to combat foul ball
issue on 1St base side.
2. HVAC Replacement at Senior Center $250,000
Description of Improvements: Replace current HVAC System at Azusa Senior
Center.
Justification or Significance of Improvement: of Replace obsolete system with
state of the art energy efficient system.
3. Ficus Removal/Palm Tree Install $163,000
Description of Improvements: Demo current Ficus Trees and replant with (8)
Palms and add adjacent concrete flat work.
Justification or Significance of Improvement: Tree is not appropriate for space
and as a result is a maintenance nightmare and a city liability.
4. Synthetic Turf/Median Island Pilot Program $49,000
Description of Improvements: Changeout existing Median Island (turf/irrigation)
with Synthetic Turf Program.
Justification or Significance of Improvement: Experiment on Median Island
(turf/irrigation) with Synthetic Turf Program as a pilot program designed to curb
water use and defray long-term maintenance costs.

5. Exercise Equipment at Northside Park$25,000
Description of Improvements: This project will consist of the installation of
interactive cardio fitness equipment and pad on south end of Northside Park.
Justification or Significance of Improvement: Funded by Kids Come First
proceeds,the equipment will complement new walking path at Northside Park.
