PERSON, ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER VIA: RICK COLE, CITY MANAGER ^,,, ° DATE: FEBRUARY 1 1, 2001 SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO THE 2002 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT (CIP) BUDGET TO APPROVE A $47,615 BUDGET TO INSTALL POURED IN PLACE RUBBER HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE PLAY SURFACE AT MEMORIAL AND VETERAN'S FREEDOM PARKS RECOMMENDATION It is recommended City Council authorize an amendment to the 2002 CIP to approve a $47,615 budget to install poured in place rubber handicap accessible play surface at Memorial and Veteran's Freedom Parks. BACKGROUND A California Integrated Waste Management Board grant was omitted from this year's CIP in error. The grant is nearing its life span and must be utilized by April 2002. The new playgrounds and play areas in need of replacement are ready for installation. Bid specifications and price quotes are readily available pending approval. In order to move forward staff requires City Council approval to establish a budget for the project. Staff is recommending that the budget be established by allocating $23,808 of State Proposition 12 monies from another previously approved project described below and $23,807 available through the subject grant for a total budget of $47,615. City Council had previously approved a CIP budget for Resurfacing of Tennis and Basketball Courts at Memorial, Northside and Slauson Parks of $57,000. It is staff's recommendation to reduce this project's budget by $23,808 for a new reduced budget of $33,192. Additional funds needed to complete those projects may be supplemented by the capital contribution expected from the Community Facilities District contribution expected from the Mountain Cove Development. 444(2(//— %/4c;L FISCAL IMPACT This action will recognize and appropriate $23,807 from the California Waste Integrated Management Board and allocates a matching amount from Proposition 12 monies. This action will further reduce the Resurfacing of Tennis and Basketball Courts at Memorial, Northside and Slauson Parks from $57,000 to $33,192.
