ORDINANCE NO. 1046
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA,
ADDING CHAPTER 8.09 TO TITLE 8 OF THE AZUSA MUNICIPAL
CODE, RELATING TO DANGEROUS WEAPONS.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain as follows :
SECTION 1. Chapter 8.09 is hereby added to Title 8 of the
Azusa Municipal Code to read:
"Chapter 8.09. Dangerous Weapons.
8.09.010. DISCHARGING OF DANGEROUS WEAPONS PROHIBITED.
Except as otherwise provided for in this Chapter it shall be
unlawful for any person to fire, discharge, shoot, or operate
or to allow, assist, or participate in the firing, discharging,
shooting or operating of any gun, revolver, pistol, firearm,
simulated firearm, spring gun, air gun, . air rifle, sling, sling
shot, or device designed or intended to discharge, or capable of
discharging, any dangerous missile or cartridge, shell, ammunition,
or device containing any explosive substance designed or intended
to be used in or fired from any gun, revolver, pistol, firearm or
simulated firearm.
8.09.020. POSSESSION OF DANGEROUS WEAPONS BY MINORS PROHIBITED.
Except as otherwise provided for in this Chapter, it shall be
unlawful for any person under the age of eighteen years to have
in his possession, or under his control, care, or custody, any
gun, revolver, pistol, firearm, simulated firearm, spring gun,
air gun, air rifle, sling, sling shot or device designed or
intended to discharge or capable of discharging any dangerous
missile or any cartridge, firearm or device containing any
explosive substance designed or intended to be used in or fired
from any gun, pistol, or firearm or simulated firearm.
8.09.030. PROVIDING DANGEROUS WEAPONS TO MINORS UNLAWFUL.
Except as otherwise provided for in this Chapter it shall be
unlawful for any person to sell, give, loan or in any way furnish,
or to cause or permit to be sold, given, or loaned, or in any
way furnished, to any minor person under the age of eighteen
years, any gun, revolver, pistol, firearm, simulated firearm,
spring gun, air gun, air rifle, sling, sling shot, or device de-
signed or intended to discharge or capable of discharging any
dangerous missile or explosive substance. This Section shall
not apply to or include any person who shall loan, give, or
furnish to any minor person under the age of eighteen years any
firearm or weapon or device when and only when it is so loaned,
given or furnished to comply with and when such minor person under
eighteen years of age actually participates in shooting at any of
the designated target ranges in Section 8.09.05, or while going
to and returning from such target ranges.

8.09.040. PERMISSABLE USE OF DANGEROUS WEAPONS.
This Chapter shall not apply to Peace Officers, Auxilliary
Peace Officers, including Auxilliary or Reserve Policemen
when acting in the line of duty or while shooting or dis-
charging any type of revolver, pistol or rifle at any target
range established by the City.
8.09.050. DISCHARGING FIREARMS AT PERMITTED TARGET RANGES.
This Chapter shall not apply to any minor person under the age
of eighteen years who is lawfully enrolled in or is a member of
a lawfully established revolver, pistol, or rifle shooting club
or association when going to and returning from or engaged in
shooting at any inanimate target or trap-shooting device at any
lawfully established target, pistol, revolver or rifle range.
This Chapter shall not apply to any person shooting at any re-
volver, pistol or rifle range established and operated by the
Parks and Recreation Commission of the City when such range
or ranges are approved by and conducted under regulations
adopted by the said Commission and approved by the City Council.
8.09.060. SAME. PARENT AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED.
Whenever any minor person under the age of eighteen years possesses,
has custody, care and control of any dangerous weapon or dis-
charges or shoots the same at any target range, or while going to
or returning from said target range, said minor person shall carry
in his immediate possession a signed written authorization from
a parent or guardian so to do.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this
ordinance and shall cause the same to be published as required by
law .

I, DEAN KLARR, City Clerk of the City of Azusa, do hereby certify
that the foregoing Ordinance No. 1046 was regularly introduced and
placed upon its first reading at a regular meeting of the City Council
on the 20th day of November , 1972 . That, thereafter, said
ordinance was duly adopted and passed at a regular meeting of the City
Council on the 4th day of December , 1972, by the following
vote, to wit:
AYES : Councilmen: Rubio, Decker, Snyder, Clark, Solem
NOES : Councilmen : None
ABSENT: Councilmen: None

I do further certify that I caused said ordinance to be
published prior to the expiration of fifteen days from the passage
thereof in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, a newspaper of general
circulation, printed, published and circulated in the City of Azusa,
on the 14th day of December, 1972, and that the same was published
in accordance with law.
