AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA AMENDING THE AZUSA MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO SIGNS IN THE FREEWAY SERVICE ZONE
AND ADJACENT TO FREEWAYS.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain as
follows:
SECTION 1. Upon recommendation of the Planning Commis-
sion, subsection (b) of Section 9230.71 of the Azusa Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(b) SIGNS NOT PERMITTED ADJACENT TO FREEWAYS.
No sign shall be erected, constructed, relocated,
reconstructed, altered or maintained within 660 feet
of a main traveled roadway of a freeway regardless of
the district or zone in which it is located, if:
1. Such sign because of its location, size,
nature, or type constitutes or tends to constitute,
a hazard to the safe and efficient operation of
vehicles upon a freeway, or creates a condition
which endangers the safety of persons or property
upon a freeway; or
2. Such sign is designated to have, or has,
advertising thereon maintained primarily to be
viewed from a main traveled roadway of a freeway."
SECTION 2. Upon recommendation of the Planning Commis-
sion, Paragraph 5 of subsection (f) of Section 9230.71 of the
Azusa Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"5. Determination of Compliance. No person
shall erect a sign within 660 feet of the main
traveled roadway of a freeway until the Planning
Commission has determined that the sign complies with
the regulations of this Section. Whenever any person
proposes to erect a sign within 660 feet of the main
traveled roadway of a freeway, the application for
said sign shall be referred to the Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission shall review the plansthe
proposed site, if necessary, and make its findings
within 35 days after the application is referred or
longer if approved by mutual consent of both Planning
Commission and applicant. "
SECTION 3. Upon recommendation of the Planning Commis-
sion, subsection (a) of Section 9221.20 of the Azusa Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(a) Signs complying with the applicable regulations
set forth in Sections 9230.70 (c) and 9230.71."
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage

required by law.
