ORDINANCE NO. 879
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA AMENDING SECTION 9100.20 OF THE AZUSA
MUNICIPAL CODE TO REQUIRE UNDERGROUND UTILITIES
IN SUBDIVISIONS.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain as
follows:
SECTION 1. Subsection (1) of Section 9100.20 of the
Azusa Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
" (1) Utility lines, including, but not limited to,
electric, communications, street lighting and
cable television shall be required to be placed
underground. The subdivider shall make the nec-
essary arrangements with the respective utility
companies, and shall be responsible for the
installation of such facilities.
For the purpose of this subsection, appurtenances
and associated equipment such as, but not limited
to, surface mounted transformers, pedestal mounted
terminal boxes and meter cabinets, and concealed
ducts in an underground system may be placed above
ground.
This subsection shall not apply to private utilities
facilities which do not provide service to the area
being subdivided, nor to high voltage transmission
lines transmitting electricity of 50,000 volts or
more.
The City Council may waive or modify the require-
ments of this subsection if topographical, soil or
other conditions make such underground installations
unreasonable or impractical.
1. Street Lighting.
Street lights shall be required and shall be
installed by the subdivider of the size and
numbers that shall be adequate for the type
of street served according to City standards.
The street lighting system shall be an under-
ground ornamental system in accordance with
the specifications of the Azusa Light, Power
and Water Department.
The City Council may waive or modify the require-
ments of this subsection if conditions make
such installation unreasonable or impractical.
2. Overhead electric and telephone lines.
Overhead utilities, electric and telephone
lines, when permitted, shall be located at
the rear of lots along alleys or easements
as the case may be. The subdivider shall
make arrangements satisfactory to the affect-
ed public utility company for the necessary
easements."
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage
of this ordinance and cause the same to be published as required by
law.

certify that the above Ordinance No. 879 was regularly introduced
and placed upon its first reading at a regular meeting of the City
Council on the 20th day of June , 1966. That, thereafter,
said ordinance was duly adopted and passed at a regular meeting of the
City Council on the 5th day of July , 1966, by the following
vote, to wit: -
