The City'Council of the City of Azusa met in regular
session at the above time and place.
Councilman Ortuno (Mayor Pro tempore) led in the Flag Salute

The Supt. of Pub11c',1Works requested that an exam-
ination'be held for the position of maintenance
3&adman9t,to be hired at the third step of the
salary range. This step was requested, since an
examination, held at the first step, did not prove
successful in obtaining sufficiently qualified
applicants.

hold an examination for leadman in the Public Works
''Department at the third step of the salary range.

A proposal was submitted to Walker -Built Homes, Inc.
by the City, for the purchase of five acres at the
northweet,corner of their proposed subdivision No.
20502', located at Pasadena Avenue north of Gladstone
Street; for the price of $259000.00. Mr. Walker
replied; rejecting this offer and holding to the
original:.prlce qu6ted of $48,620.00.
The acquisition of this proposed park site was
recommended by the Park and Recreation Commission.

Johnson,,this matter be referred to the Adminis-
trative'Officer to obtain the approximate cost to
the City -for an appraisal of this property by a
qualified appraisor. Motion carried uanimously.

It was, recommended by the Park and Recreation Comm. Consideration
that-•the'Gum Grove on Sierra Madre Avenue be acquired of Gum Grove
for a,park site. The possibility of purchasing this for park site
land,by.the City was referred to the Administrative
Officer -for investigation and report.
Moded',by'Councilman Romero, seconded by Councilman
Johnson, Mr. T. Ikehara, owner of land located on
Noith.Pasadena Avenue presently being farmed in
dichondia; and offered for sale to the City, be
' notified that the City is not interested in purchasing
this property. With no objections, motion ordered

'It was requested by the Park and Recreation Commission,
that-Mr.;William Pacifico, Recreation Director be
authorized to attend the 39th National -Recreation
Reareation Congress at Long Beach, September 30,
throu'gh October 4th. It was further requested that
Commission members who may wish to attend daily
sessions be authorized to do so.
Moved by Councilman Romero, seconded by Councilman
Fawcett the requests he approved, and 9125.00 advance
expense allowance be approved for Mr. Pacifico, and
daily expense allowance granted to such Commission
members -as will be attending the Congress. Mbtion
carried -unanimously.
The bids which were received for street lighting
materials, and opened on August 30th, were reported
on by Supt. Smith and the City Engineer. After
considering the bids, and based on a desire for
.standardization of all the street lighting equip-
ment, -it was recommended all bids be rejected on the
metal standards and luminaires, and the purchgse
made on the open market at the lowest cost that will
meet the City's standards.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman
Romero, the City reject all bids on metal standards
and luminaires. Motion carried unanimously.

an ordinance prohibiting backyard incinerators after No sotion re
