The City Engineer,reported on the matter of a drive-
way of a house recently relocated at 321 North Coney
Avenue. It Was pointed out by the Engineer that the

house was correctly situated on the lot, and that
proper sideyard and setbacks had been maintained.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Council-
man Johnson and ordered carried, this report be
filed.
It was reported that an easement could be obtained
through Mrs. Lees property for the sewer line
extending north to Twelfth Street for the cost of
$150'-00 which is the estimated expense involved to
Delandscape and replant the area covered by the
easement.
The City Engineer reported that, in the matter
of obtaining an easement through the Courtney
property for a sewer line, there has been some
difficulty in arriving at conditions satisfadtory
to all. Mr- Lewis, appearing for Mr. Courtney,
protested the charge, as set forth in the ordinance,
of 80¢ per foot to hook into the sewer after grant-
ing an easement for the location of the line.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman
Romero," -that the matter of Mrs. Lee's easement be
tabled, With no objection, motion ordered carried.
Moved'•by Councilman Romero, seconded by Councilman
Fawcett,'.that the Attorney, the City Engineer and
Administrative Officer work out an arrangement for
a,sewer line easement with possible ordinance
amendments. With no objection, motion ordered carried.
The Engineer reported that negotiations have been
started with Gilfillan Brothers relative to the
possibility of establishing their parking lot at
the northwest portion of City owned land at Fifth
land•Virginia. It is hoped that such an arrangement
can be worked out so that the City would be able to
utilize the present parking lot located on Fifth
'Street'for a valuable usage.
'Moved•by Councilman Romero, seconded by Fawcett,
that this 'matter be referred to the City Attorney,
City,Engineer and Administrative Officer'for recom-
mendation to Council relative to the parking lot.
Hith'no objection, motion ardered carried.
The City Treasurer submitted a list of dates upon
which,government treasury bills would mature, and
stating also that it might be necessary before Dec-
ember -to sell some of the bills in order to main-
tain.operating capital for the City.
Moved,by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman
Romero, and unanimously carried, that the City
Treasurer be authorized to reinvest in 91 -day
Government Bills as they mature and, if necessary,
sell bills in order to have operating capital for
the.City.
A Oommittee of men from various organizations, and
representing Boy Scout Troupe and known as Azusa
Boy'Soout General Committee requested the City to
lease to the Committee certain City owned land
north of Sierra Madre Avenue -for use of the Boy
Scout activities.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman
Johnson, that the City Attorney prepare a lease
agreement for the Scouts, to be presented to the
Council for approval. Motion carried unanimously.

Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Councilman
Rome"ro,'that the Heart Association be notified of
Council approval, subject to the usual arrangements
as required previously. With no opjections, motion
-ordered -carried,
The'Administrative Officer stated that he had been
contacting certified appraisors, to establish their
fees; in order that one could be employed to make
an appraisal of the site at Gladstone and Pasadena
Avenue proposed to be purchased for a park site.
Moved by Councilman Romero, seconded by Councilman
Fawcett and unanimously carried, that the Admini-
strative Officer make arrangements to employ an
appraisor for this site. Motion carried unanimously.
The City Engineer remarked that Azusa was host for
the•East San Gabriel Valley City Engineers meeting
on Wednesday and requested that the City of Azusa
follow the procedure'of other cities and pay for
luncheons for those attending the meeting.
Moved by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Council-
man Romero, that the Engineer be authorized to pay
the luncheons of those attending the meeting of
the East San Gabriel Valley City Engineers meeting.
Motion carried unanimously.
Certification was received from the Los Angeles
County, Office of the Sheriff, showing that the
rates covering care of city prisoners in the Los
Angeles County Jail effective October, 1957 would
be $2.99 per male prisoner, $7';4-2per female pris-
oner,per day.
Moved by Councilman Romero, seconded by Council-
man Fawcett, that,this notice be acknowledged.
Within objection, motion ordered carried.
On the 9th day of October, 1957 the Azusa Plan-
ning;Commission recommended change of zone
classification of that land lying within North-
erly;Annexation District No. 15, and passed
Planniag•Commission Resolution No. 21 recom-
mending this change of zone.
Moved"by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Council-
man -Romero, the public hearing be held before the
City'Council on November 4th, 1957 at 8:00 P.M.
on'the permanent zoning on lands lying within
.Northerly Annexation District No. 15 and the City
Clerk proceed as required. With no objections,
motion ordered carried.
A'letter. was submitted from the -Chief of Police
A.,Le Hendrick stating that Officer John Mosley
had 'successfully completed the six weeks training
course at the Calif. Highway Patrol Academy on
Sept.• 26, 1957.

The City Clerk announced that the deed for the Approval of
purchase of the east 18 feet of Lot 103, Tract payment for
7625 had been received by the City, and payment Vernon Ave.

The Administrative Officer reported that the court
was io accept bids on property located on Angeleno
Avenue north of Sixth Street, on Saturday October
19th. This was the site that would be suitable for
publio.use, such as a fire station. Since it will
be necessary to deposit 10% of the bid price at
this time, authorization was requested for payment
of the 10%, if the Council so desired. The total
cost of the two lots involved would not exceed
$6300.00.
Moved'by Councilman Fawcett, seconded by Council-
man Romero that the Administrative Officer be
authorized to have a bid submitted for lots 17
and 18, Block 39, Map of Azusa, and that 10% of
-the total bid of $630.00 be approved.
