AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA AMENDING THE AZUSA MUNICIPAL CODE TO REQUIRE
WARNING DEVICES AT EXCAVATIONS AND OBSTRUCTIONS IN
PUBLIC STREETS.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. The Azusa Municipal Code is hereby amended by
the addition thereto of a new Section 7207 reading as follows:
"SECTION 7207. EXCAVATIONS AND OBSTRUCTIONS. WARNING
DEVICES REQUIRED.
Every person making any excavation, or erecting or leaving
any obstruction, in the traveled part of any street or other
public place shall place and maintain lights at each end of such
excavation or obstruction, and at distances of not more than
fifty feet along such excavation or obstruction, and at such
other locations as may be necessary for the protection of the
public from injury, from sunset of each day to sunrise of the
next day, until such excavation is entirely filled, or such
obstruction is removed, and every such person shall maintain
barriers not less than three feet high at each end of said
excavation or obstruction, and at such other places as may be
necessary for the protection of the public from injury, at all
times until each excavation is entirely filled or such obstruction
removed. Any person failing to comply with the requirements of
this section, in addition to any other penalties, shall reimburse
the City for any expense incurred by the City in placing or
installing the warning devices hereby required. "
SECTION 2. The Azusa Municipal Code is hereby amended by the
addition thereto of a new Section 7208 reading as follows:
"SECTION 7208. BARRICADES AND WARNINGS. COMPLIANCE WITH.
No unauthorized person shall ride or drive any animal or
drive or propel any vehicle, or walk or go upon or cross any
portion of any public street where excavation or street work is
in progress and where there is a barrier or barricade to prevent
traveling upon such portion of such public street, or at or near
which there is a sign stating that such portion of the street is
closed, or where warning lights are maintained to indicate that
such portion of said street is closed. No person shall injure,
destroy or remove any such barrier, barricades or warning lights
except under orders of the person having charge of such street
work. "
SECTION 3. This ordinance is urgently required for the
immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety. The
facts constituting such urgency are as follows: There presently exists
upon the public streets certain excavations and obstructions which are
hazardous to the traveling public and which are unmarked, and there is
presently no requirement in the laws of the City that a person making
such excavations or obstructions place thereon adequate warnings to the
public .
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of
this ordinance and shall publish the same as required by law and the
same shall be effective immediately upon its passage.

thereof in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, a newspaper of general circu-
lation, printed, published and circulated in the City of Azusa, on the

accordance with law.
