AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA ADDING CERTAIN PROVISIONS TO THE ZONING
CHAPTER OF THE AZUSA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO
FALL-OUT SHELTERS.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council does hereby find, determine and
declare that the following amendment of the zoning ordinance has been
duly initiated, that notice of hearing thereon has been duly given and
published, that public hearings thereon were duly held by the Planning
Commission and by the City Council and that the public convenience and
necessity and the general welfare require that the following amendment
be made.
SECTION 2. A new subsection (n) is hereby added to Section
9230.40 of the Azusa Municipal Code reading as follows:
"(n) Fall-out Shelters. Shelters for the protection of
human beings against bomb blast or radioactive fall-out, when
accessory to a lawful and permitted use upon the same lot or
premises, shall be considered a permitted accessory use.
Separate structures used primarily for the protection of human
beings against bomb blast or radioactive fall-out may be per-
mitted in any required front or side yard provided that the
structure shall extend not more than 18 inches above natural
grade except for air vents and appurtenances which shall
extend not more than 54 inches above natural grade and pro-
vided that the location thereof shall be approved in writing
by the Planning Commission. Such approval shall be granted
in such manner as to require as nearly as practicable adherence to
the yard requirements of this Chapter and to preserve to the
greatest extent practicable the protections and purposes of
the yard and setback requirements of this Chapter. "
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of
this ordinance and shall publish the same as required by law.

certify that the foregoing Ordinance No.691 was regularly introduced
and placed upon its first reading at a regular meeting of the City Council
on the 5 day of February , 1962. That, thereafter, said ordi-
nance was duly adopted and passed at a regular meeting of the City Council
on the 19 day of February , 1962, by the following vote, to-wit:

I do further certify that I caused said Ordinance to be
published prior to the expiration of fifteen days from the passage
thereof in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, a newspaper of general circu-
lation, printed, published and circulated in the City of Azusa, on the

accordance with law.
