SUBJECT: INTERVIEWS WITH APPLICANTS FOR PERSONNEL BOARD VACANCY
As you know, in accordance with the Preface to the Rules of the Civil Service System, the term for
Personnel Board Member Inez Gutierrez (appointed by Board members), will expire as of
September 30, 2003.
Pursuant to Azusa Municipal Code Section 2-32 (5), Members of boards and commissions shall
serve no more than two consecutive terms of office. (Incumbents whose terms are due to expire
may reapply, provided that if they have already served two consecutive terms, they m ay serve
only after the passage of one full term. In the event that there are no applicants for the position
upon the expiration of the second term of office, the incumbent may be appointed to an
additional term.) The vacancy was advertised on the City's cable station and distributed citywide.
The Human Resources Department has received two (2) applications. Copies of these
applications are attached for your review. As this vacancy is appointed by the Personnel Board,
appointments with candidates should be scheduled so the Personnel Board may conduct
interview.
Staff recommends that the Personnel Board consider conducting interviews at its next regularly
scheduled meeting (Tuesday, September 24, 2002). However, if the Board prefers to conduct
interviews outside a regular meeting date, staff will post for a special meeting. The Personnel
Board may make its determination at its regular meeting on September 10, 2002.
As always, staff is available to answer any questions or provide additional information at the
Boards request.
