Anderson .P.E., Assistant Director, Water Operations DATE: August 23, 2005 SUBJECT: End to Recruitment for Water Production Maintenance Mechanic and start of Recruitment of Water Production Worker II As we discussed last Thursday, after several months of unsuccessful recruitment of a Water Production Maintenance Mechanic, the Water Division would like to shift the focus of the recruitment effort to securing an additional Water Production Worker II for the Production staff for the following reasons: First, a review of the job description for the Water Production Worker I, II, and II positions indicates that the duties of the Maintenance Mechanic fall within the duties of the Water Production Workers and those duties can be handled by the Water Production Workers. Second, additional Water Production Staff will be required once the new Water Treatment Plant is on line and operating at full capacity; just how many additional Production Workers will ultimately be required is unknown at this time. Third, an additional Production Worker on staff means that an additional operator will be available for standby duty and will be qualified to attend to duties by himself/herself at the Treatment Plant in accordance with State Health Department staffing and certification requirements. Fourth, one of our Water Production Worker III's is scheduled for hip replacement and will be off for approximately 6 to 7 months beginning in September. An additional operator will be needed to make up for the absent operator. Finally, a Water Production Worker II, which is what we would like to recruit, is paid slightly less than a Water Production Maintenance Mechanic at all steps, so the fiscal impact of hiring an additional operator in lieu of the Maintenance Mechanic will be minimal to none. cc: Joe Hsu, Steve Seffer rnr_ik►e+rete►anikt l'!CMIN !TM; ATC: 01 - V)-3 -os" • Vie' • AZUSA PERSONNEL ACTION REPORT NEW HIRE/SEPARATION/RETIREMENT NAME, DEPT PROB* HIRE SEPARATION REG .
