SUBJECT: SCHOLARSHIP RECOGNITION FOR THREE AZUSA
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
The Superintendent of Public Works sponsored three scholarship recipients from Azusa High
School through the Maintenance Superintendent's Association. Staff feels that Council's
recognition of the three students would enhance their motivation to pursue their careers in the
engineering field.
Two of the students, Roberto Arenas and Jaime Calderon will receive $500.00 each. Roberto
Arenas has been accepted at Citrus College and Jaime Calderon have been accepted to
Pepperdine University. Ms. Susanna Vasquez was awarded a$500.00 scholarship and an
additional $300.00 from the M.S.A. State Board.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff is requesting Council's approval to acknowledge Roberto Arenas, Jaime Calderon and
Susanna Vasquez for scholarship awards to pursue their academics in the engineering field.

SUBJECT: CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION
Pursuant to Council's request to honor citizens and businesses from Azusa, staff is recommending
that the following individuals receive Certificates of Recognition.
On Friday, June 2 the San Gabriel Valley YWCA held their Women of Achievement Leadership
Luncheon. A 1995 Recognition Certificate was awarded to Ms. Christine Dennis of Azusa High
School. Ms. Irene Esquivel of La Flor de Mexico of Azusa who is also active with the Azusa
Library, and the Azusa Chamber of Commerce was an Award Recipient.
The YWCA also honored young women from our local high schools. Marissa Herrera from
Gladstone High School and Susana Vasquez from Azusa High School.
RECOMMENDATION
With Council's's approval, staff will prepare the certificates to be presented to the recipients at a
future Council meeting.
