PEDROZA JR., SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC WORKS VIA: HENRY GARCIA, CITY ADMINISTRATOR fr DATE: APRIL 21, 1997 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF ONE 3/4 TON SEWER UTILITY TRUCK - ec(CO BACKGROUND: The Public Works Division has a need to replace the 1989 One Ton Sewer Utility Truck currently in use. This vehicle will then be utilized within the Street Division as a Sign Maintenance Truck,replacing the current 1972 Sign Truck which will be declared surplus. FINDINGS: The City of Santa Ana acquired the same 3/4 Ton Sewer Utility Truck through the formal bidding procedure. Nicholas Chevrolet, in Garden Grove received the award as the low bidder in the amount of$22,927.92 (sales tax not included). FUNDING: The purchase is funded within the 1996-97 Capitol Improvement Program, Sewer Fund(234) Project No. 758400, allocated for$27,000.00 CONCLUSION: In order to take advantage of another municipality's formal bidding process and to conserve City Clerk and Staff time of drafting specifications and advertizing, Staff is requesting Council waive the formal bidding process and piggy-back on the City of Santa Ana's formal bidding procedure. 4d7aaa/g477 /2*213 East Foothill Blvd. , P.O. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA WAIVING FORMAL SEALED BIDDING AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF A PURCHASE ORDER FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE 3/4 TON SEWER UTILITY SEWER MAINTENANCE TRUCK FROM NICHOLAS CHEVROLET WHEREAS, Section 2.536 of the Azusa Municipal Code allows the City Council to waive formal sealed bidding upon finding that the public welfare will benefit through the maintenance of the sewer infrastructure system, and WHEREAS, the City will have clearly complied with the intent of Section 2.536 of the Azusa Municipal Code, even though formal "sealed"bids will not have been solicited, and WHEREAS,the City of Azusa adopts the results of the City of Santa Ana's formal bidding process, and WHEREAS, the City of Azusa shall receive the same specifications and purchase cost to warrant the piggy-back procedure, NOW, THEREFORE,THE CITY COUNCIL OF l'HE CITY OF AZUSA DOES HEREBY FIND AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Tharthe formal "sealed"bidding process is waived, and Section 2.
