SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF POLICE DEPARTMENT SOFTWARE
Background:
In past years, connecting to the department's HP computer system was done by stringing a cable
from each terminal to a main computer. This type of cabling is known as serial connecting.
Advancements in cable technology now enable our HP computer to connect in the same fashion
as do PCs to the server. A single Ethernet cable is needed to connect our PCs and the HP
eliminating the need for redundant and serial cabling from each PC.
Findings:
Written quotes were obtained from the following three vendors:
Broughton International $6,858.72
WRQ, Inc $7,014.60
Jet Research Laboratories, Inc $7,252.75
Recommendation:
To approve the software acquisition to enable the kind of connectivity already in use by other
departments within the city.
