HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 569 • J ORDINANCE NO. 569 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA PROHIBITING THE OCCUPANCY OF HOTELS, TRAILER COURTS, AND OF OTHER BUILDINGS BY LEWD PERSONS, AND PROHIBITING CERTAIN IMMORAL ACTS AND PRACTICES. The City Council of the City of Azusa does ordain as follows : SECTION 1 . No person conducting any motel, lodging house, trailer court, or hotel in the City of Azusa, and no person in actual charge, management or control of any motel, lodging house, trailer court, or hotel therein, shall suffer or permit any portion thereof to be used as a house of ill fame or place of assignation for the purppse of prostitution, fornication or lewdness, or suffer or permit any las- civious cohabitation, adultery, fornication or other immoral practice to be carried on therein, or suffer any person to make engagements for immoral purposes therefrom, or suffer or permit any lewd, immoral or • degenerate person to occupy any portion thereof, or direct persons thereto or elsewhere for immoral purposes. And it shall be lawful and. competent for the City to introduce in the trial of any person charged with violation of this ordinance, testimony as to the general character and reputation of said place or of persons who occupy rooms in or fre- quent said place. ' SECTION 2. Every person conducting any motel, lodging house, trailer court, or hotel in the City of Azusa shall at all times keep and maintain therein a register, in which shall be inscribed with ink or indelible pencil, the name and home street and town address of each and every guest or person renting or occupying a room or rooms therein. Such register shall be signed by the person renting or occupy- ing a room or rooms, and the proprietor of such motel, lodging house, trailer court, or hotel or his or her agents shall thereupon write op- posite such name or names so registered the number• of each room assigned to or occupied by each such guest, together with the time when such room is rented; and until all of the aforesaid entries shall have been made in such register, no such guest shall be suffered or permitted to occupy privately any room in such house. When the occupant or occupants of each room so rented shall quit and surrender the same, it shall be the further duty of the proprietor or his or her agent to enter the time thereof in such register opposite the name of such occupant or occupants. No person except as in this ordinance provided shall let for sleeping or lodging purposes any room in any motel, lodging house, trailer court, or hotel in the City of Azusa more than once between the hours of 6:00 o' clock in the evening and 6:00 o' clock in the morning of the next day, except to bona fide travelers with baggage. Erasures or alterations on the register shall not be permitted or made for any purpose, and it shall be unlawful to erase a name or names or address or addresses or to permit such an erasure. Such register shall be kept in a conspicuous place, and shall be at all times open to the inspection of any guest of such house or hotel and of any executive or police officer of the City of Azusa. SECTION 3. No person shall write or cause to be written, or knowingly permit to be written in any register in any motel, lodging house, trailer court, or hotel, any other or different name or desig- nation than the true name of the person registering therein, or the name. by which such person is generally known. SECTION 4. No person shall invite or entice or suggest to any person or persons upon any street, alley, road, drive or in any park or other place, that they accompany, go with or follow him or her to any place for immoral purposes, or where immoral acts are indulged in, and no person shall invite, entice or address or suggest to any person from any door, window, porch or portico of any house or build- ing that they enter any house or go with, accompany or follow him or her to any place whatever for immoral purposes or where immoral acts are tp be indulged in. -1- 1 - I ... 4r SECTION 5. No person shall knowingly transport or assist in transporting in any manner whatever any person or persons for immoral purposes, or to or from a place where immoral practices are indulged in. SECTION O. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon con- viction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not to exceed: Five Hundred Dollars or by imprisonment in the County or City Jail for a term not exceeding six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTION 7. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published as required by law.
