3 i CALIFORNIA, REGULATING THE COLLECTION OF REFUSE
AND RUBBISH, PROVIDING FOR THE TYPES AND KINDS
4 OF CONTAINERS AND THE TYPES OF MATERIAL TO BE
COLLECTED AND PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF
51, SAID SERVICES IN THE RESIDENTIAL SECTIONS OF THE
1 CITY OF AZUSA.

The City Council of the City of Azusa does hereby ordain
8
1 as follows :

Section 1. "Rubbish" as used herein shall mean and include
10 11
1 any and all glass, crockery, bottles, tin cans, containers, and
III
11 other combustible or non-combustible waste articles and materials
12 11
which have been discarded or rejected by the owners thereof and
13
0, set out or placed for collection. The enumeration of certain

articles herein shall not act as elimination of
15
1but are used merely as a guide for the meaning of the term
16
"rubbish". However, the term "rubbish" shall not include garbage,
17
!rocks, dirt, substantial amounts of building materials, heavy trees
18 1
or branches. The exclusion of heavy trees and branches herein is
19
not meant to exclude lawn clippings or cuttings, weeds, shrubbery
20
trimmings or other small trimmings. Ashes shall be included,
21
'provided they are placed in a wooden box or metal container, are'
22 ,
lwet down, and do not weigh more than fifty poinds per pick up.

Section 2. Collection. Rubbish shall be collected in
24hvarious sections of the City of Azusa in accordance with schedules
25
now or which may hereafter be approved by the Department of Public
26
Works of the City of Azusa, subject to approval of the City
27
Council. If rubbish day falls on any national holiday, Admission
28 pay, Memorial Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Washington's Birthday,
29
ew Year's Day, or general election day, the pick-up ;.)k4.--v' e will
30 ot operate that day, but will be picked up in accordance with a
31
pecial schedule to be announced at that time.

1 Section 3. Exclusion from pick up. Stones, ashes which
2 are not wet down or which are not placed in a wooden or metal
3 container, and which weigh more than fifty pounds per pick up,
4 are not to be collected.
5I Section 4. Rubbish shall be placed in containers, or
611 securely tied in bundles which can readily be handled by one
7 I man and shall be set out not earlier than the day before and
81 not later than 7:30 o'clock A. M. on the dates set itd.c
911 In those parts of the City of Azusa where there is an alley
10 1 other than a blind alley, rubbish shall be placed neatly in the
11 1 rear of the premises adjacent to the alley, in such portions
12 1 that the collector shall have ready access thereto. In those

131, portions of the City of Azusa where there is no alley in the
1411 rear of the premises, or where the alley is a blind alley, rubbish
15 shall be placed at the curb in such a manner that will not unduly
16 interfere with auto or pedestrian travel or will not be blown
17 about by winds.
181 Section 5. All containers shall be removed from the curb
19 on the same date which they are emptied.
20 Section 6. All dumping of rubbish in vacant lots and along
211 roadsides, and piling or sweeping refuse and rubbish from lawns
221 is unlawful.
23 Section 7. The Light and Water Department of 1,ne of
241 Azusa is hereby instructed to make a charge of Fifty Gents ( 50 )
251 per month, or portion thereof, on each light meter to residential
261 homes which are or may be installed and in operation within said
27 City of Azusa. The above charge shall not apply to commercial
28 or power meters or those which have for any reason been dis-
291 connected. This charge shall be effective for the month starting

30 and for the billing made after the first day of February, 1952,
31 and on each month thereafter, pending further order of the
321 Council. Light meters as used herein shall refer only to

1 domestic light meters and shall exclude all other types of
2 1 meters, such as commercial and power meters.
3 Section 8. Upon collection of the amounts set forth
4 in Section 7 hereof, said amounts shall be transferred to the
5 General Fund of the City of Azusa at monthly or other periodical
611 intervals.
7 11 Section 9. Any person violating any of the provisions of

8J this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and,
9H upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable by a fine of not
10 11 more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or by imprisonment in
111 the City Jail of said City of Azusa for not more than Six (6)
12p months, or by both such fine and imprisonment .
13 1 Section 10, The Mayor shall sign this Ordinance and the
14i City Clerk shall attest and certify to the passage and adoption
15 of the same and cause the same to be published once within fifteen
16 1 days after its passage in the Azusa Herald and Pomotropio, a
17 weekly newspaper of general circulation, published anu ,i4•culated
18 in said City of Azusa and thirty days after its passage the same
19111 shall be in full force and effect.
