The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned
session at the above time and place.
Mayor Memmesheimer called the meeting to order.
Present at Roll Call: Councilmen: Paul, Ortuno, Johnson,
Teasley, Memmesheimer
Also Present: City Engineer Schulte, Supt. of
Light & Water Smith, and City Clerk -
Administrative Officer Miller
With no corrections, the minutes of the meeting of
April 4th were approved as submitted, including the
correction indicated by the City Clerk on page 3 re-
lative to the bids for pipe, which should read 3220
feet rather than 2220 feet.

There being no other business, the City Council proceeded Canvass of
with the canvass of the votes of the,General Municipal Vote "uncpl
Election held on April 12, 1960. Each member of the Election
election board was given a tally sheet on which to score
the results.
Upon completion of the canvass of votes cast on the day
of election, the .absentee ballots were canvassed. Council
was advised that fifty-three absent voters ballots had
been issued and that fifty-two had been returned and
accounted for. The City Clerk stated that the signatures
on the application had been compared with the original
registration affidavit of the voter and presented the
Identification Envelopes to the Election Board for com-
parison of signature on the applications.
The City Clerk further stated that this was the time for
any challenges or questions. There was none.
The identification envelopes were opened, the numbered
stub removed, if still attached, and,the folded ballot
placed in the ballot box. The ballots were then mixed
in the box, withdrawn one at a time, and the vote called.
This tally was then added to the canvass of the precinct
returns.
A Resolution was presented declaring the result of the
election and the result of the canvass of votes.
Councilman Johnson offered the following Resolution
entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
HELD IN SAID CITY ON THE 12th DAY OF APRIL, 1960,
DECLARING, BY PRECINCTS IN THE WHOLE OF SAID CITY,
THE RESULT OF SAID ELECTION AND THE RESULT OF THE
CANVASS OF THE VOTES CAST AT SAID ELECTION.
The City Council of the City of Azusa does resolve as
follows:
WHEREAS, a general municipal election was held and con-
ducted in the City of Azusa on Tuesday, the 12th day of
April, 1960, as required by law, and
WHEREAS, notice of said election was duly and legally
given, voting precincts were properly established,
election officers were appointed and election supplies
furnished, and in all respects said election was held

and conducted and the votes cast thereat received and
canvassed, and the returns thereof made, determined and
declared in the time, form and manner as required by
the Elections Code and Government Code of the State of
California providing for and regulating municipal elec-
tions in cities, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of said City met at the Council
Chamber thereof on Tuesday, April 19, 1960, at the hour
of 7:30 P.M., to canvass the returns of said election; and
whereas the said City Council finds, as a result of said
canvass, that the number of votes cast, the names of the
persons voted for, and other matters required by law, to
be as hereinafter stated;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND IT IS DETERMINED AND
DECLARED AS FOLLOWS:
That said regular municipal election was held and con-
ducted in the City of Azusa on Tuesday, the 12th day of
April, 1960, in the time, form and manner as required by
law; and the votes cast thereat were duly and regularly
canvassed, including absent voter ballots and the returns
thereof made in the time, form and manner provided by law;
That there were twelve (12) voting precincts established
in said City for the purpose of holding said election, as
formed and established by Resolution No. 4019 of the City
Council of the City of Azusa adopted March 7, 1960;
That the whole number of votes cast in said City at said
election was 2811.
That the names of the persons voted for, the offices for
which they were voted and the number of votes given at
each precinct for each of said persons, together with the
whole number of votes given in the entire City for each of
said persons are as follows:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, DETERMINED AND DECLARED that
at said General Municipal Election Anthony M. Ortuno and Charles B.
McLees were each duly elected to the office of Councilman of the
City of Azusa for the full term of four (4) years, and James Miller
was duly elected to the office of City Clerk of said City for the
full term of four (4) years, and Alec Watkins was duly elected to
the office of City Treasurer of said City for the full term of four
(4) years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall enter on the records
of the City Council a statement of the result of the election showing:
(1) The whole number of votes cast in said City;
(2) The names of the persons voted for;
(3) The measures voted upon;
(4) For what office each person was voted for;

(5) The number of votes given at each precinct to
each of such persons and for and against each
measure;
(6) The number of votes given in said City to each
of such persons and for and against said measure.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall immediately
make and, upon compliance by the persons elected with the
provisions of Section 4533 and Section 4536 of the Elections
Code of the State of California, shall deliver to each of
such persons so elected a certificate of election signed by
him and duly authenticated; that he shall also administer to
each person elected the oath of office prescribed in the
Constitution of the State of California and shall have them
subscribe thereto and file the same in his office. He shall
also require from each of such respective persons so elected
the required loyalty oath and file the same in his office.
Whereupon, each and all of said persons so elected shall be
inducted into the respective office to which they have been
elected.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify to
the adoption of this resolution.

Councilman Ortuno, that the Resolution be adopted.
Resolution was then passed and adopted by the above
listed vote of Council and numbered Resolution No. 4036.
The City Clerk presented affidavits of filing of expense Expense

The Honorable Albert H. Miller, Judge, Citrus Municipal Oath of
Court, then administered the Oath of Office to the newly Office
elected officials. The City Clerk presented a Certificate
of Election to each of the successful candidates.

Moved by Councilman Teasley, seconded by Councilman
Ortuno, and ordered carried that the nominations be
closed.
