HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-10 Staff Report - Waive Auditorium fees Chamber of Commerce-RevisedCONSENT ITEM E-10 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: JEFFREY LAWRENCE CORNEJO, JR, CITY CLERK ADRIAN GARCIA, MMC, CHIEF DEPUTY CITY CLERK DATE: JANUARY 21, 2020 SUBJECT: REQUEST FROM AZUSA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO WAIVE FEES FOR THE USE OF THE AZUSA AUDITORIUM BACKGROUND: On January 13, 2020, the City received an application from the Azusa Chamber of Commerce, which has partnered with the League of Women Voters, for the use of the Azusa Auditorium on January 29, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in order to conduct a Candidates’ Forum for the candidates who are on the ballot of the General Municipal Election of March 3, 2020. The proposed action waives all fees associated with the use of the auditorium. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action: 1)Waive all fees associated with the use of the auditorium. ANALYSIS: The Azusa Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the League of Women Voters of East San Gabriel Valley has requested the use of the Azusa Auditorium on January 29, 2020 to hold a Candidates’ Forum for individuals running for City Council and Mayor. As the applicant, the Azusa Chamber of Commerce has requested that all fees associated with the use of the auditorium be waived. Per the City’s Resolution of Fees and Charges, the cost for use of the auditorium is $100 per hour after 4:00 p.m. and a 25% discount for Azusa-based non-profit organizations. There is also a Custodian cost (Staff Time) of $40 per hour. The Chamber of Commerce has requested for the Candidate’s Forum to be Broadcast Live on Channel 3, the Fee for a video technician is $250. Per the auditorium policy, only the City Council can waive these fees. Approval of the recommended action will waive $825 in fees as follows: REVISED APPROVED CITY COUNCIL 1/21/2020 Request to Waive Fees for the Use of the Azusa Auditorium January 21, 2020 Page 2 2 Rental Fee 5hrs $100 per hour $500 25% Discount $-125 Custodial Fee 5hrs $40 per hour $200 Video Technician Fee $250 Total $825 FISCAL IMPACT: The proposed recommendation waives the Auditorium Rental fee of $375, Custodian fee (Staff Time) of $200 and Video Technician fee of $250 for a total General Fund revenue waiver amount of $825.
