HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-19 Staff Report - 2020 patrol vehicle purchase CONSENT ITEM E-19 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: MIKE BERTELSEN, CHIEF OF POLICE DATE: MAY 18, 2020 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF ONE (1) 2020 FORD POLICE INTERCEPTOR VEHICLE SUMMARY: As part of the ongoing fleet management program at the Azusa Police Department, police vehicles are replaced or retired out of the fleet when appropriate and deemed necessary. The Police Department is replacing one (1) vehicle and needs to purchase one (1) 2020 Ford Police Interceptor SUV from National Auto Fleet Group in Watsonville, California under National Joint Powers Authority Contract# 120716-NAF. RECOMMENDATION(S): It is recommended that the City Council take the following action(s): 1) Approve the purchase one 2020 Ford Police Interceptor SUV vehicle from National Auto Fleet Group, 490 Auto Center Drive, Watsonville, CA 95076 in an amount not to exceed $38,003.06. 2) Approve the purchase of this vehicle based on the competitive bid process completed by the County of Los Angeles as authorized under AMC Section 2-519, from which they ordered Ford Police Interceptor Vehicles under NJPA contract #120716-NAF. DISCUSSION: On January 21, 2020, an Azusa Police Department 2014 Ford Interceptor (CA license plate #1438908) was involved in a traffic collision. The vehicle was totaled as a result of this collision by the insurance provider. A claim was filed with the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority (Claim #20031530). On March 18, 2020, a check was issued to the City of Azusa in the amount of $33,519.00 which was deposited in account #10-20-310-000-6825. APPROVED CITY COUNCIL 5/18/2020 NJPA contract #120716-NAF for the County of Los Angeles is at a base price including tax and tire fees of $38,003.06 per vehicle, which includes driver and front passenger side-impact airbags. The total cost for one (1) marked Black and White unit and inclusive of tax and tire fees is $38,003.06. Due to the insurance reimbursement in the amount of $33,519 and the current available funds in account #10-20-310-000-6825, there are adequate funds to purchase a replacement 2020 Ford Interceptor. FISCAL IMPACT: There are adequate funds available in the FY1920 approved budget under the Police Maintenance and Repair account #10-20-310-000-6825 for the purchase of a 2020 Ford Interceptor.
