HomeMy WebLinkAboutO- 3 Cabling Infrastructure A 00
DATE: JANUARY 14, 1998
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: JOHN BRODERICK- CHIEF OF POLIC ,
VIA: JOSEPH HSU, INTERIM CITY ADMINISTRATOR
SUBJECT: CABLING INFRASTRUCTURE
Background:
The Police Department is doubling its square footage under the expansion and remodel project. The
cabling infrastructure that provides for voice and data transmission requires expansion as well. The
cabling is mandatory to support the existing and expanded communications needs of the Police
Department.
Findings:
The re-cabling project throughout the city has been completed under the direction of Lucent
Technologies. The Police Department cabling efforts are consistent with the cable design already
under way throughout the rest of the city. Lucent is a California Multiple Awards Schedule(CMAS)
vendor(certificate attached); thus formal bidding is not suggested in this case.
Cost: Lucent Technologies $86,724.82
Recommendation:
Due to the specialized nature of this project, it is my recommendation that City Council pass the
attached resolution waving formal sealed bidding, and authorize the purchase of the cabling
installation and materials from Lucent Technologies. The total cost of$86,724.82 will be funded
from account number 220-400-7201-7120-650900 (Building Project Account).
