Recommendation:
City Council wave formal bidding and adopt the resolution to have Lucent Technologies relocate the
underground conduit that bridges City Hall,West Wing,Library, Senior Center, and the auditorium
to the main telephone switch located in the basement of the Police Department.
Background:
The Police Department is the center of most of the city's telecommunications systems. Excessive
storm drain runoff could pose a threat to the critical junction box, which houses copper and fiber
conduits. This area needs to be secured, and we also need to expand data and voice service to the
new Police Department building, both of which require additional work to be performed.
The telecommunications' systems foundation has been accomplished under the direction of Lucent
Technologies. They are familiar with the city's cabling infrastructure, therefore they are best suited
to perform the necessary work.
Fiscal Impact:
Lucent Technologies is a California Multiple Awards Schedule(CMAS)vendor;certificate attached.
The total cost of$9,364.27 will be funded from account number 243-400-7705-7140. This was an
unanticipated cost that surfaced during the expansion of telephone service to the old Light &
Water Building, and now the north end of the new Police facility. Monies that were budgeted for
hardware and software support of our soon to be implemented Mobile Display Computer (MDC)
system, have been mov2: to 243-400-7705-7140 to pay for the conduit cable work.
