HomeMy WebLinkAboutE- 5 Resolution approval of removal and installation of new play equipment & replacement of athletic field fencing 100: AGENDA ITEM To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Randy Noriega, Associate Director of Recreation and Parks Via: ick Cole, City Managere Date: January 18, 2000 RECOMMENDATION Approve the adoption of the Resolution approving the removal and installation of new play areas and play equipment at Memorial Park and City Hall Park and the removal and replacement of the athletic field fencing and backstops at Memorial Park athletic field. The cost of these improvements shall be funded by the 1996 Los Angeles County Proposition A Safe Parks Bond Act. SUMMARY The above mentioned projects have been scheduled for replacement and do have the endorsement of staff and have been discussed and authorized by the Azusa Parks and Recreation Commission. The Memorial Park play area and equipment and athletic field fencing are in disrepair and require immediate attention. The play equipment at City Hall park no longer meet national standard for safety and handicapped accessibility. BACKGROUND The Memorial Park athletic field as well and the play equipment at Memorial Park are old and possibly pose safety hazzards. The fencing and blacktop are well over thirty years old. The Memorial Park play equipment is twenty years old and many components have had to be removed as they have come into disrepair. Both the Memorial Park and City Park playgrounds are not handicapped accessible. The City Park play structure has a swing connected to the play structure and this is no longer an approved configuration for a play structure. FISCAL IMPACT Both projects,the fencing/backstop removal and replacement and the play area and play equipment replacement at Memorial and City parks are estimated to be fully paid for by the per parcel allocation of $138,269.00. 4.40,ejd— /ef/M RN:dls/99-248
