Date: January 18, 2000
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the adoption of the Resolution approving the removal and installation of
new play areas and play equipment at Memorial Park and City Hall Park and the
removal and replacement of the athletic field fencing and backstops at Memorial
Park athletic field. The cost of these improvements shall be funded by the 1996 Los
Angeles County Proposition A Safe Parks Bond Act.
SUMMARY
The above mentioned projects have been scheduled for replacement and do
have the endorsement of staff and have been discussed and authorized by the
Azusa Parks and Recreation Commission. The Memorial Park play area and
equipment and athletic field fencing are in disrepair and require immediate
attention. The play equipment at City Hall park no longer meet national standard
for safety and handicapped accessibility.
BACKGROUND
The Memorial Park athletic field as well and the play equipment at Memorial Park
are old and possibly pose safety hazzards. The fencing and blacktop are well over
thirty years old. The Memorial Park play equipment is twenty years old and many
components have had to be removed as they have come into disrepair. Both the
Memorial Park and City Park playgrounds are not handicapped accessible. The
City Park play structure has a swing connected to the play structure and this is no
longer an approved configuration for a play structure.
FISCAL IMPACT
Both projects, the fencing/backstop removal and replacement and the play area
and play equipment replacement at Memorial and City parks are estimated to be
fully paid for by the per parcel allocation of $138,269.00.
