FROM: KING DAVIS, CHIEF OF POLICE
VIA: RICK COLE, CITY MANAGER h,,, ielAr
DATE: MAY 6, 2002
SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO USE $12,610 FROM ASSET SEIZURE TO COVER ADDITIONAL
COSTS FOR DARE OFFICERS' SALARIES AND BENEFITS FOR REMAINDER OF F/Y
01/02 AND ATTENDANCE AT THE NATIONAL DARE CONFERENCE.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve using $12,610 from Asset Seizure to cover
additional costs for DARE Officers Egan and Duchesne salaries and benefits for the remainder
of fiscal year 2001/2002 and also for them to attend the National DARE Conference.
BACKGROUND
This is the first year that Reserve Officer Duchesne has worked as a DARE instructor. He is
working jointly with Reserve Officer Egan in providing the DARE program to elementary
students in the City of Azusa. Due to the volume of core classes being taught and classroom
visitations being provided, there is inadequate funding to complete this school year. However,
the budget for next fiscal year (2002/2003) has been amended to adequately fund the DARE
program to ensure that this shortfall does not occur again. Attendance at the National DARE
Conference is also necessary for each of these officers to teach the DARE curricula.
FISCAL IMPACT
These funds have been reserved from Asset Seizure and will have no impact on the General
Fund.
